The RDFL academy institute will not have punts nor kickoff's starting in 2018 instead of simply talking about it, the league will introduce a test season. Kickoff's and punts being questioned as a contributor to possible player injuries, this test format will give the league academy the opportunity to track data on the number of injuries avoided through full speed contact from runing down field.
All punts no matter position on the field the ball will be placed on the 25 yard line and all kickoff's will automatically be placed on the 20 yard line, this includes the opening kickoff's which start the contest, from a field position standpoint long punts held as a magic pill to fix a teams lack of solid defense and its offensive illness ability to move the ball past the 50 yard line has been a death sentence, while hopefully reducing the possible injury bug from special teams play running down the field, this could open up opportunity for each teams offense, instead of having a punt placed out of bounds on the two yard line and the offense unable to advance the ball beyond the twenty, this could present more scoring opportunity while reducing injury.
