Portland Rockets 9 Indiana Wesleyan 1

Good Morning Baseball Fans, It's a beautiful day in Portland!

Portland Rockets traveled to Marion Tuesday night and defeated Indiana Wesleyan 9-1.  Portland scored in the opening inning on hits by Chris Tillery and Bryan Brudi. We executed a double steal, Tillery taking home, then 3 more runs in the 3rd inning.  Brudi's triple was the big hit, then cruised with 9 runs on 12 hits for the 9-1 victory. Bryan Brudi of Churubusco and Vincennes University had 3 hits and 3 RBI's . Two hits for Tom McCowan and Chris Tillery.  Rocket righthander, Tyler Mills, was dealing, for his second consecutive start. "General Mills" (as I call him), was in command. He allowed 0 runs on 5 hits through 7 innings. I can't resist....I guess you can say "General Mills" had them for breakfast!!!!  Mills threw only 66 pitches as the game lasted 2 hours and 26 minutes. Tyler Palmer, his Huntington Forester team mate, pitched the last two innings.  Four double-plays were turned by Portland.  What a beautiful ballpark Coach Chad Newhard has at Wesleyan, and a fine program as well.

Rockets return to action tonight at our own beautiful ballpark, Runkle-Miller Field. Come see the new netted backstop.  The whole place looks brand spanking new...thanks to our Parks Department. The corner of Western and Blaine will be hopping tonight. It's Crossroads night and I am sure that Janet and her zany group will have some shenanigans in store for the crowd. Our rivals tonight are the Decatur Dirty Birds.  They beat us 4-3 in 11 innings a couple of weeks ago.  Dan Bollenbacher gets the start.  I like our ball club and I think you will like them too!

Special thanks to our new sponsors, Holiday Inn Express and Wings and Rings.  They have cooked up some good deals for us.  Come out to the park and find out more of what is happening on the home front. It is great to work with local promoters like Sue and Vicki.

Don't forget the Alumni Picnic on Saturday, July 17 at 4pm.  Home run derby begins at 3 pm.

Happy Birthday to Ray Gerber, Baseball Icon from Geneva.

Once again, Portland 9 Wesleyan 1.  Tonight is Crossroads Night with the Decatur Dirty Birds at 7 pm.
Rockets, rockets are the best....R O C K E T S !!!!!

This is Randy Miller, pg 14
