Posted Jul 15/10 - Rockets Revenge Decatur 7-3
Good Morning Baseball fans, it's a beautiful day in Portland!

Portland hosted Decatur last night at Runkle-Miller Field. A large crowd witnessed a fine rivalry game. It was Crossroad Financial Credit Union night. The good spirit prevailed for the home team.  Rockets won the game with a 7-3 score over the Dirty Birds. Lots of fun, free stuff and good Community karma. The kids took part in the bat spin competition, the strike toss, and, of course, the girls from Crossroads (Janet, Gina, Becky, Paula, and others) decked out in their baseball shirts, sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" in the 7th inning stretch.  Wow, we have a nice PA system, it even made them sound good! And the new backstop made Portland look good.  The other Park Department offerings have helped our "Field of Dreams" have a new sparkling look about it...even sounded busy with all of the fans lining the fences on both sides. Love ya in Portland guys!!! For the record, our pa man, Dan Haines, pointed out that Riley Muihlenkamp was the first to hit a foul into the modern netted backstop.

The focus point of the evening was to find out if the Rockets, loser to Decatur twice this season, had an answer for the Dirty Birds. Solid pitching by Dan Bollenbacher and Bill Geeslin and timely hitting (a 4 run Rocket rally in the 4th inning) RBI's that inning to Justin Marrero, Thomas McCowan, and Mark Isenberg helped offset spotting Decatur a 3-0 lead.  GOOD DEFENSE, and I dare say GOOD KARMA and GOOD ENERGY when Billy Geeslin comes to the game.  Billy "Ballgame" was lights out the last 4 innings, 0 runs on 1 hit, striking out 7.  There is an answer, and it comes with an exclamation point.

It is always a great game in Portland when we see a Rocket double-play defensively and a Rocket home run blast on our side!  Williams-Marrero-Muhlenkamp on the double-play and Bryan Brudi in the 7th inning with a monster home run over the left field fence to add some insurance to the cause!  Rockets outhit the Birds 10-7. Hits by Muhlenkamp and Mark Isenberg.

Special thanks to bat boy, Seth Rupe, and our helpers Mitchell and Chuck Brunswick.  Congratulations to Graphic Printing on their Koufax Championship.  Also, good for Portland...coming out and rooting en masse for the home team.  Rocket defeat Decatur 7-3 in a 2 hour and 29 minute game.

Tonight we play at home again and have another big rivalry dame with our old friend, Leo Ocha and the LaMargarita Blues.  Come out and join the fun - have a Rocket dog and a pop!

Sure can't beat fun for a good time!

This is Randy Miller pg 14
