BATON ROUGE, LOUSIANA, Saturday, August 20, 2009 – Baton Rouge Bears; Bears, taking it’s name from the powerful animal capable of moving with great speed. The Bears simple but bold logo speaks for itself. General Manager, Coach Barbara Davis of Dallas Texas announces it’s decision to join the United Basketball League (UBL) Professional Basketball League was made about one month ago after speaking to league Commissioner Coach Ozzie Denson. The Bears will begin it’s official first season with the UBL starting March 2010 in Baton Rouge, “Official Bear Stumping Ground.”

The new Bears team name and logo will soon appear on the official United Basketball League, league website, http://www.ublhoops.com and the Bears new team website, at http://www.ballcharts.com/brbears. Hurricanes General Manager, Barbara Davis made the decision to join the UBL about a two months ago.

"The BIG BLACK BOLD and SIMPLE logo makes a statement all of it’s own. Standing strong, showing its powerful strength and speed, the Baton Rouge Bears is ready to show the world that Baton Rouge is the Bears Official Stumping Ground," Says Coach Davis, General Manager. 

This will be an exciting year for Baton Rouge, which will be getting their college men’s basketball team on the way at Baton Rouge Community College and also with the new Pro-Am Men’s Fall League, including the new pro-am team, Baton Rouge Bulldogs. The Pro-Am League will be starting September 15, 2009, hosted by the Baton Rouge Bears.  

We have basketball for all of Baton Rouge’s basketball fans to enjoy,” say’s Davis. “This is Your community…….your teams! We’re just here to entertain you.”

The team's uniforms will be revealed at the team’s pre-season games, December 19, 2009 vs. Texas Hurricanes. The pre-season schedule will also include games vs. NBA D Leagues, ABA Teams, and WBA teams. The Bears will be at the UBL league combine tryouts on October 3, 2009 and will be holding it’s first official team tryout on October 10, 2009 at Baton Rouge Community College. Official Bears apparel and merchandise will be coming soon to order on the team’s website.

BR Bears roster includes former Mexico overseas player, Barry Whitley and former college star RoShon Jacobs.  BR Bears will be announcing it’s new Head Coach and coaching staff soon.

 Fan’s who sign up on the team’s website for tickets to The Bears home games, will get a special ticket rate. Tickets will go on sale for pre-season games starting December 1, 2009 and regular season tickets will be on sale closer to the season start date. Come out and show your support.
