Eden Prairie, MN – Vikings LB Chad Greenway earned his 1st career NFC Defensive
Player of the Week honors for his performance at Detroit on Sunday. Greenway
matched a Vikings record with 3 takeaways in the game, snaring a pair of INTs off Lions
QB Matthew Stafford and recovering a fumble. He finished the game with 4 tackles, 2
INTs that he returned for a combined 49 yards, a FR, and he recovered an onside kick.
Greenway is only the 3rd LB in team history to post 3 takeaways in a game, joining Jack
Del Rio and Roy Winston.
Including Greenway, the Vikings have had 9 different players earn NFC Player of the
Week honors a total of 12 times since 2006. Greenway is the 5th Viking to earn
defensive honors over that span and his 2 INTs matches his career total entering 2009.
The last Vikings LB to earn NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors was Jeff Brady
vs. Detroit in 1996. Greenway joins Brady, Del Rio and Mike Merriweather as the only
Vikings LBs to earn the award.
