Posted Oct 3/09 - First Game On New Field: Mustangs Defeat Plankinton/White Lake

MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon christened its new field with a 16-0 win over White Lake/Plankinton Friday night in Mount Vernon.

The game was scoreless heading into the third quarter, but Jon Nebelsick caught an 11-yard pass from Brain Kluth in the third quarter to give the Mustangs an 8-0 lead and Robbie Kazi added all the insurance they would need with a one yard touchdown run in the fourth.

Kluth ran for 64 yards to lead Mount Vernon, which had 179 total rushing yards. Kazi added 57 yards. Kluth also threw for 96 yards. Kyle Weiss caught five passes for 69 yards.

Kyle Gerlach led the Mustangs’ defense with 17 tackles and Dillon Johnson added 13.

Zane Nightingale ran for 63 of the Warriors’ 90 yards on the ground. Chase Kristensen led the defense with 11 tackles and Caleb Kirsch added eight.

Mount Vernon is still undefeated at 5-0 and plays Friday in Gregory. White Lake/Plankinton is 2-4 and hosts Emery/Ethan in White Lake.
