| BRYAN, Texas-- The Pflugerville girls basketball team successfully opened its 2011-12 season Tuesday with a 61-39 victory over Rudder High School. Head coach Nancy Walling's Panthers were paced by 13 points from junior forward Jonelle Smith and double-doubles from senior forward Itiana Taylor and junior forward Diana Omozee. Taylor finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds and added four steals, while Omozee had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Bre Payne chipped in with 10 points while junior point guard Taylor Ross (7 points) and senior guard Ari Booth (six points) also contributed to the balanced scoring attack. The Panthers return to action on Friday, Nov. 11 when they travel to Killeen High School. The varsity game tips at 6:30 p.m. while at 5 p.m., the freshman and junior varsity games will take place. The Pflugerville junior varsity and freshman (Gold) squads also successfully opened their seasons Tuesday at Rudder. The Panther JV cruised to a 75-11 victory behind game-high 14 points apiece from Destini Oakmon and Jaden Smith. The PHS freshman posted a 55-44 win with Alyssa Washington leading the way with a game-high 21 points. |
