Posted Nov 13/09 - PHS Varsity defeats Converse Judson, 70-44, behind Christie Mooney (18 points, six steals) and a double-double by Adesuwa Ebomwonyi
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Behind four scorers in double-figures, the Pflugerville girls varsity basketball team moved to 2-0 as they cruised to a 70-44 victory over Converse Judson Friday night. The Panthers, who held the No. 3 state ranking in both the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) and Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) preseason polls, were led by senior forward Christie Mooney's 18 points and game-high six steals.

The balancing scoring attack also saw junior forward
Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (PICTURED, left) register P'ville's first double-double of the season as she finished with 11 points and a team-best 11 rebounds.

Joining them in double-figure scoring were junior guard
Curteisha Woods with 12 points and junior post DyMesheon (Dee) Hyder who chipped in with 10 points.

In addition to Ebomwonyi's 11 boards, Mooney pulled down six rebounds and Hyder five. The Panthers also were strong at the free throw line as they converted 22 of 31 foul shots.

The game was a rematch of last year's 2009 UIL State 5A Area finals - a Pflugerville 61-52 win which moved the Panthers into Regional quarterfinal play en route to their State Tournament Final Four showing and a 32-6 finish.

Judson, which falls to 0-2, was led by senior guard Ciera McLee's game-high 24 points.
The Panthers led at halftime, 32-19.

Pflugerville returns to action on Monday, playing its third consecutive road game when the Panthers square off against local opponent Round Rock High School at RRHS. The varsity game has a 7:30 p.m. tip.
