Posted Nov 16/09 - Mooney (17 points) and Taylor (12 points/12 rebounds) lead P'ville to 57-39 win over Round Rock; all four Panther teams win
ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Senior forward Christie Mooney (pictured) notched a game-high 17 points, sophomore forward Itiana Taylor added her first varsity double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (six points) also pulled down 12 rebounds, to lead the state-ranked Pflugerville varsity to a 57-39 victory over Round Rock in non-district play Monday.  The win lifts Pflugerville to 3-0, while the Dragons fall to 3-3. Head coach Nancy Walling's Panthers held the No. 3 ranking in the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) State 5A preseason polls (first regular season polls have not yet been released).

Mooney turned in an 8-for-13 shooting shooting performance and went 1-for-2 from the foul line. Her 17 points were a point shy of her season high. The 12 rebounds apiece by Taylor and Ebomwonyi were season-bests on the boards for each.

Pflugerville never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes of play. The Panthers led 17-11 after the first period and held a 30-20 edge at intermission behind 13 points from Mooney and seven rebounds from Ebomwonyi.

P'ville kept a 10-point lead throughout the third period before opening up a 16-point lead after three quarters (45-28) and pushing the lead to 20, 50-30, on a 3-point jumper from the wing by junior point guard Curtiesha Woods.

The Panthers shot 43 percent from the field, connecting on 23 of 54 shots, while Round Rock was held to 33.3 percent shooting (15 of 55). Pflugerville held a 43-32 edge in rebounding.

The P'ville varsity returns to action Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 19-21 at the Greater Austin Tournament. The Panthers first game is Thursday at noon at Pflugerville's own Panther Gym against Crockett HS.
