| MANSFIELD, Texas -- The state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers went 1-1 in Wednesday's competition at the Meredith Hatch Mansfield Rotary Invitational to finish the tourney with a 2-2 mark as consolation bracket semifinalists. Wednesday, PHS posted a 59-51 win over Mansfield Legacy before losing to Huntsville, 57-54 in the consolation semifinals. The Panthers now stand 16-4 on the season. Sophomore forward Itiana Taylor (pictured) netted 15 points and shot seven-for-10 from the floor with seven rebounds, while junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi added a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards to lead the Panthers to the victory over Mansfield Legacy. Pflugerville jumped out to leads of 21-10 and 37-19 after the first two periods en route to the win. Junior guard Curtiesha Woods added nine points for the Panthers. Ebomwonyi had her second double-double in three games of the Invitational. She also was solid from the foul line against Legacy, hitting eight of her 10 attempted free throws. In the Huntsville game, the Panthers were hindered by a poor shooting effort from the foul line, making 14 of 32 from the charity stripe. Pflugerville continues its quest for another District 25-5A championship when it returns to district action on Saturday, Jan. 2 against Anderson HS at Anderson in Austin. The Panther varsity is 2-0 to start district play, having defeated Bastrop and Westlake to start league action. The Pflugerville-Anderson varsity game tips at 2 p.m.; it will be proceeded by the Freshman "A" game (11 am), Freshman "B" game (12:30 p.m.) and junior varsity contests (12:30 p.m.). |
