Posted Jan 12/10 - Pflugerville varsity has six in double-figure scoring in 85-37 victory over Bowie; Panthers sweep Bowie with wins in JV and two freshmen games

  PFLUGERVILLE, Texas-- The state-ranked Pflugerville varsity moved to 20-4 with a decisive 85-37 home court win over District 25-5A opponent Bowie Tuesday night at the Panther Gym. The Panthers remain atop the District standings with a 6-0 record.

Six Pflugerville players were in double-figure scoring. Senior forward Christie Mooney led the way with a game-high 15 points, followed by junior point guard Curtiesha Woods (12 points), sophomore forward Itiana Taylor (12) along with sophomore guards Ari Booth (11) and Jasmyn Booker (11) and junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (10).

Ebomwonyi also grabbed nine rebounds and had three steals. Additionally, junior forward Shoneice Yett played in her first game back from knee surgery which sidelined her since early November, and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds while chipping in with six points.

Both Woods and Taylor each had three steals to join Ebomwonyi as top defenders on the night.

The Panthers, ranked No. 13 in the TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine 5A weekly poll, return to action Friday, playing at District opponent and cross-town foe Connally High School at Connally. The varsity game tips at 7:30 p.m. following the freshman "A" game at 5:15 p.m. and the 6:30 p.m. freshman "B" and junior varsity contests.


Panther JV and freshmen squads register victories over Bowie as well

The Panther junior varsity pushed its record to 21-1 overall and to 6-0 in District action with a 78-37 win over Bowie. The JV got a game-high 23 points from freshman guard Taliyah Brooks, while freshman forward Amy Staha (14 points) and Jonelle Smith (12) rounded out the double-figure scorers.

Both Pflugerville freshmen squads also defeated Bowie, with the freshmen "A" (Gold) squad posting a 68-32 win and the freshmen "B" (Blue) team winning by a 40-23 margin.

In the freshman "A" game, the Panthers were paced by Mackinzie Browning (15 points), Lexi Box (12 points) and Destini Oakman (11 points). In their 40-23 win, P'ville was led by Cayla Ross with 16 points and Amber Harris who chipped in with 10 points.

The Panther freshmen "A" squad is now 21-1 overall and stands 6-0 in District play.
