Posted Feb 18/10 - State Playoff Area Round: Pflugerville faces San Antonio O'Connor on Friday, Feb. 19

PFLUGERVILLE, TEXAS- The state-ranked Pflugerville girls basketball squad will face San Antono O'Connor in the 2010 State 5A Area round of competition (second round) on Friday, February 19. The game takes place at Lehman High School in Kyle, Texas with a 6 p.m. tip. This is the first of a playoff doubleheader at Lehman HS, as an 8 p.m. game between Pflugerville Hendrickson and San Antonio Lanier follows. Tickets for the evening are: $4 for adults and $2 for students.

Head coach Nancy Walling's Panthers are 28-5 entering Area play. On Tuesday (Feb. 16), Pflugerville defeated San Antonio Reagan, 61-52, in first round of playoffs. O'Connor defeated Converse Judson, Tuesday in the first round.

In the final regular season State 5A polls, the Panthers were ranked ninth (by the Texas Girls Coaches Association) and No. 13 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine poll. Pflugerville won the 2010 District 25-5A championship outright - its 21st in history - and earned its 22nd Bi-District title with the win over SA Reagan.

The Pflugerville-SA O’Connor winner advances to the regional quarterfinals (third round) of the playoffs against San Antonio Wagner on a day and time TBA. Wagner (32-2) defeated San Antonio MacArthur 60-33 Thursday (Feb. 18) night in second round action. Wagner is No. 7 in the TABC/Tex Preps Basketball poll and No. 8 in the TGCA poll.

Last year, the Panthers reached the State Tournament (final four) semifinals as Region IV Champions, finishing 32-6. It was Pflugerville's sixth trip to the State Tournament semifinals.

The Panthers have three players in double-figure scoring, with senior forward Christie Mooney (14.1 ppg), junior post Nneka Enemkpali (14.0 ppg) and junior forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi (11.9 ppg) leading the way. Ebomwonyi is averaging a double-double as she is pulling down 10.2 rebounds per contest.
