Cumberland County didn't have a chance on Tuesday, as Russell County Lakers Varsity won in blowout fashion, 8-1 in seven innings.
Russell County scored three runs in the fourth on a two-run single by Alex Turner and a groundout by Brett Kimbler.
Grant Best boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace Russell County . He singled in the first, fourth, and fifth innings.
Ben Bertram brought the heat against Cumberland County during his outing. Bertram gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out seven during his 3 1/3 innings of work earning the save in his effort
Brennan Coffey got the win for Russell County . He allowed one run over 3 2/3 innings. Brennan struck out six, walked none and gave up three hits.
The game's last lead went to the Lakers thanks to a third inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on an error and a sacrifice fly by Taylor Grider.
Russell County scored one run in the fifth inning, and then followed it up with one more in the sixth. In the fifth, the Lakers scored on an RBI single by Grant Best, bringing home Ben Bertram.
