CHAMBERLAIN — The Mount Vernon VFW baseball team cruised past Chamberlain 20-4 in five innings Tuesday.

The game was ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Mount Vernon’s Justin Davis pitched four innings, allowed one earned run and two hits. He walked two, struck out six and picked up the win.

Offensively, Charlie Mahaffey was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs and Brian Vermeulen was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Drew Frey was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Cody Renken was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Bryce Erickson was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Deric Denning had a double.

Chamberlain’s Chris Schwartz took the loss. He went 1 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and six earned runs. He walked five and struck out two.

Mount Vernon won the 13-14-year-old game 20-2.

Mount Vernon plays Plankinton today. The JV starts at 5:30 p.m.
