MOUNT VERNON — Brian Vermeulen and Justin Davis combined to throw a no-hitter for Mount Vernon’s 15-and-16-year-old VFW baseball team as Mount Vernon beat Plankinton, 15-0, in four innings Monday night.

Vermeulen pitched the first two innings to earn the victory for Mount Vernon (3-0).

Davis and Nate Zens each had three hits to lead the offense for Mount Vernon, which scored seven runs in the fourth inning to end the game early. Zens had a home run and drove in four runs.

Jake Sonne and Cam Deinert both added two hits, while Deric Denning and Cody London each drove in two runs.

Tom Harris was hit with loss for Plankinton. He allowed seven runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings of work.

In the 13-and-14-year-old game, Mount Vernon beat Plankinton, 12-2.

Up next for Mount Vernon is a game Wednesday night at Armour. The 13-and 14-year olds will start at 5:30 p.m. with the 15-and 16-year olds to follow.
