MOUNT VERNON — Nate Zens went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs to lead the Mount Vernon 15-and-16-year-old VFW baseball team past Parkston, 12-2, in five innings in a second-round game of the I-90 League midseason tournament.
Zens’ two-run homer ended the game via the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Brian Vermeulen picked up the win after tossing five innings and allowing one run on three hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Cam Deinert was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, Deric Denning went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Jevon Grace had two hits for Mount Vernon, which will face either Corsica or White Lake/Kimball in the championship game at 4 p.m. today in Mount Vernon. |
