FLANDREAU — Mount Vernon lost to Garretson 13-9 in the championship game of the Class B 13- and-14-year-old VFW state baseball tournament Sunday in Flandreau.
Deric Denning had a double and a single to lead Mount Vernon, which led 9-6 heading into the sixth inning before Garretson scored four times in the sixth and three more in the seventh to come from behind.
Drew Frey, Nick Miller and Cody Renken each had two singles for Mount Vernon. Miller took the loss.
In other action Sunday, Tyndall beat Flandreau 12-8 in nine innings in the third-place game.
Austin Kaul threw four shutout innings in relief to pick up the win for Tyndall. Jordan Hejna and Scott Wiesler each hit two-run doubles in the top of the ninth inning for Tyndall.
Colome beat Big Stone City/Ortonville 15-1 in five innings to take the consolation championship.
Kane McBayer struck out 11 and allowed one hit in five innings to pick up the win for Colome, which also got two triples and four RBIs from Terrance Kinzer. |
