Kelley Newton is a native of Kansas City, KS where he attended Wyandotte High School and was a two sport letterman.  While at WHS he excelled in Football and Basketball playing each for four years.  In football, Newton was a three year starting varsity quarterback leading the bulldogs to their first winning season in 15 years.  In basketball, as a freshman, Newton played on all four of the school's teams (Freshman, Sophmore, JV, and Varsity).  As a sophmore, he was the 6th man of the team that won 3rd place in the state tournment.  As a junior and senior, Newton became the team's starting shooting guard and that team went to state both years & lost in the first round.
After completing high school, Newton attended Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas.  He was a two year starter for the Panthers earning an All-Jayhawk Conference selection and leading the conference in three-point field goal attempts, makes, and percentage all as a sophomore and averaging 18 ppg, 6 assts.  Newton then transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he was a part of three seasons with the Sooners.  The first was a medical redshirt year, where he tore his ACL as the team went on to the Sweet Sixteen and lost to Michigan State.  The second year, Newton was a key reserve for the Sooners that finished 26-7 and Newton earned his name as a sharp-shooter.  That year the Sooners went to the second round of the NCAA tournment.  In Newton’s final year he was a starter leading the Big XII Conference in 3 point percentage shooting and finished in the top 5 of All-Time in Oklahoma Sooner history.  Newton earned a BA degree in Sociology from the University of Oklahoma.

After OU, Newton traveled playing on a Nike Touring Team and for the Oklahoma City Storm in the USBL.  Later, Newton accepted a coaching position at Midland College for one season where he helped 4 sophomores sign scholarships at four year institutions.  Newton then went to the University of North Alabama as an assistant coach for two seasons.  Newton then became the Head Coach of the On Point Lady Hooper team which is a part of the WBCBL.  They finished 6-3, made it the the National Tournment in Mobile, AL and lost in the first round.  At the end of the season Coach Newton decided to move back home to Kansas and start his own team called the Kansas Lady Nuggets.  In their first year, Newton and the Nuggets reached many goals, like winning the region and making it to the National Tournment in Tampa, FL.  2012 the Nuggets won the region with a 13-1 record and a spot in the National Tournment as the overall #1 Seed.  Falling short of a National Championship by losing in the semi-final round to the eventual National Champions the Louisana Bayon Angles.
