Game Notes: THEEEEEEYYYY'RRRRRE BAAAAACK...The Thunder (15-6) held off cross-town rival and defending State Champion Apple Valley, 5-4, to claim its second straight district play-off title and earn a trip to the State Tournament at Hopkins. Righthander Casey Jacobson (3-1) earned the win, scattering six hits and yielding just two earned runs over five solid innings of work. He walked three and struck out five. Ben Wagner pitched the final two to earn his first save of the season, striking out the final batter of the game to seal the victory. Trailing 1-0 in the second, the Thunder tallied three to take the lead. Joe Radermacher walked to start the frame and was followed by Rookie Joel Bertelsen's single. After Dan Coyle was HBP to load the bases, Rookie Justin Trusty hit a sac fly to score Radermacher. Jacobson walked to re-load the bases, and Spencer Pratt lined a single to score Bertelsen. Veteran Mitch "Jeter" Haug plated Coyle with a fielder's choice ground out to deep short. The defending champs would not go quietly however. The Twins answered with a single run in the third and two more in the fourth to go up 4-3. Once again, the Thunder would respond, as Jacobson led off the inning with a double. With two-out, Wagner lined a single to score Jacobson and tie the game at 4. John "Rain Delay" Grotkin walked, setting the stage for Radermacher, who singled in the go-ahead run. Wagner worked out of a jam in the sixth, stranding runners at second and third, before retiring the side in order in the seventh to preserve the win and send the defending champs home. The win stamped a ticket to the state tournament for the third time in four seasons for the club (winning in 2004 and finishing fourth in 2006), and earned the Thunder's second straight divisonal play-off crown. At 15-6, the 2007 Thunder team is the winningest in recent club history. The team also set new marks for consecutive league wins (six), consecutive overall wins (seven) and total league wins (nine).
