Anderson & Stofferahn (6) Eastview (13-20-1) finished off their regular season by defeating Apple Valley 4-2. The Lightning finished their regular season at 8-8, an even .500 mark, and clinched fifth place because they own tiebreakers over both Burnsville (2-0) and Prior Lake (1-0). The Lightning got off to a fast start with some great baserunning by Groskreutz (3 SB, 2 RS) & Stofferahn (RS, SB, BB). After adding another tally in the 3rd on a double by Spika, the Eagles started to bring the pressure. After letting one in, Eastview got their 4th and final run in the 4th with a leadoff single by Reller, sacrifice by Huhner, and a 2-out single by Groskreutz. The Eagles added another one in the 5th to make it 4-2. Apple Valley had runners on 1st/2nd with 2-outs and got another single towards right center. Groskreutz, playing in CF, got the ball barehanded and fired a rifle on the fly to Spika to make the tag out at the dish to kill the rally! Anderson (3-3) got his third win on the season and now has the most on the staff. He went 5 strong innings, giving up 7 hits and only 2 earned runs. He walked only 2 guys and struck out 4. Stofferahn shut down the Eagles with 2 shutout innings for his first save on the season. The Lightning had outstanding defense and committed only 1 error on the night. 2 walks + 1 single = only 3 free bases, a huge improvement!! Eastview has a few days off before beginning postseason play with the MBT State Tournament being held at Eastview! The Lightning come in ranked 27th and square off against 6th seeded Minneapolis Orange. The Millers won their region in MBL League Play and are a dangerous team which has earned their seed. Game time is set for 1pm Friday at the Apple Valley HS Varsity field. With no bracket play guarantee, the Lightning will have to "upset" 2 or possibly all 3 teams in the pool to advance onto bracket play. Anderson (W, 3-3) Stofferahn (SV, 1) |
