Pecatonica got off to a good start when M. Wedige's sacrifice fly brought in the first run of the game. After J. Scoville and N. Loyd walked, the bases were loaded when D. Conwell knocked a fly ball to right field. The hit earned Conwell a single and two RBIs. With Pec leading 3-0, Monticello's B. Westby-Hess popped an in field fly which Pecatonic pitcher, J. Hendrickson caught for the first out in the bottom of the 1st. Later, N. Loyd fielded a grounder to first base for an unassisted second out. But a series of walked batters loaded the bases and put Monticello on the board with one run, before Hendrickson struck out P. Berg to finish the 1st inning. Pecatonica increased its lead in the 2nd when a number of walked batters loaded the bases allowing L. McKeon's double to bring in two runners and C. Norton's single to earn another RBI. Pecatonica's pitcher, J. Hendrickson, struck out three batters despite loaded bases to keep Monticello scoreless in the 2nd. Top of the 3rd, Pecatonica cashed in on several walks and a couple singles, but Monticello rallied to close the gap by earning 4 runs from a hit batter, a single base hit and several fielding errors. With runners at first and second, N. Loyd's pop fly to second base provided Monticello with a double play opportunity that kept Pecatonica scoreless in the fourth. But in the 5th, the bases were loaded when J. Mabin's single to right field brought two runners across home plate. Mabin himself would later score on a single by L. McKeon to increase Pec's lead to 14. A final run for Monticello in the bottom of the 5th wasn't enough to Pec's overcome the lead and the 10-run rule was implemented, bringing an end to the game. |
