Buck, Frojd (1) & Perlenfein (5) The Lightning (2-1) began pool play of the Apple Valley Tournament with a 8-7 victory over Lakeville North. The Lightning battled back twice after falling behind. It was 3-0 after a half inning and 5-3 after 3 innings but the Lightning never gave up. Down 5-4 in the 4th, Ronhovde cleared the bases with a clutch 2-out double. The Panthers tied it up in the next half inning. In the bottom of the 6th with 2 outs and nobody on base, Perlenfein (2 SB, 2 RS) knocked out a double. With 2 strikes on the hitter, Perlenfein stole 3rd and the throw went into left field allowing him to score. The Lightning held off a Lakeville North rally to grab the win. 6 different players had hits offensively but the story of the game was on the basepaths where the Lightning stole 7 bags. They come back tomorrow afternoon to face a talented St Croix squad who won their first league game by 10. Matt Smith will be on the bump, making his 2010 debut. Perlenfein (W, 2-0) |
