Game Notes: Perlenfein, Smith (2) & Buck (5)

Eastview (10-5) won its 6th straight game by defeating West St Paul 11-8 in a shootout. Eastview got on the board first by scoring twice with some aggressive baserunning by Kyllo (2 RS, 2 BB) & Furnstahl (2 RS, 3 SB). After West St Paul put up a big inning, Eastview chipped away by getting another run in the 3rd with an RBI groundout by Buck. Down 5-3, the Lightning put up 5 in the 4th with 4 hits by the bottom of the order led by Ronhovde with a 2-RBI double and Ferber with an RBI single in his 2010 debut. Perlenfein laid down a sacrifice bunt and Grimm put down a perfect suicide squeeze which scored 2 on the play! West St Paul rallied back to tie it at 8 and that's the way it stood until the bottom of the 5th when West St Paul had a threat. With it 2nd and 3rd and 0 outs, Smith got a big punch out. Buck then came in to pitch and got a flyball to Ronhovde who relayed it to Ferber and then to Furnstahl at the dish to get the inning ending double play. Fast forward to the top of the 7th when Buck led off with a moonshot double. Getting to 3rd by being aggressive on a pitch in the dirt, Buck allowed Kyllo to steal 2nd base. Following a walk to Herro to load the bases, Ronhovde plated 2 of them on a single. Ronhovde then stole 3rd and after Foy walked, the double steal was put to perfection, getting Ronhovde across. Ferber came through with another hit in his debut but the 3rd base coach had the runner round too far and get him picked off. Thankfully, a double play in the bottom of the 7th saved the coaches butt as Eastview prevailed yet again! With 5 pools (20 teams) in play this tournament, the wildcard will be hard to come by so the Lightning will most likely need to win both of Saturday's games as well to advance to Sunday's quarterfinals. Taking the mound in the afternoon game is Joe Furnstahl (2-2, 4.62) for his 4th start on the season.

Buck (W, 1-1)
