Game Notes: Furnstahl, Smith (3) & Perlenfein (6)

Eastview (17-10-1) extended its winning streak to three for the third different time on the season by defeating Bloomington 7-5 for the second time in two weeks. The Lightning now hold a 1.5 game lead over 4th place Eagan (6-6-1), who they play to end league play next week. Eastview fell behind early by giving up two runs after having 2 out with 0 on and walking the next guy. Michael Kyllo (RS, 3 H) had a 2-out rbi to drive in a run before Bloomington put 3 unearned runs on the board in the 3rd to extend their lead to 5-1. After Kyllo's hit in the 3rd, Bloomington sent down 6 straight before the bats for Eastview came alive. With 2 outs in the 5th, and still down 5-1, Grimm (2 RS, 2 BB) reached base on a walk and stole a base. Perlenfein (RS) drove him in on a single. Kyllo followed that up with another single to keep the inning alive. Ferber (RS) had a pinch hit 2-out double that drove in 2 and got the Lightning within a single run. Still with 2 outs, Buck drove in Ferber with an rbi single. After Furnstahl re-entered for Buck and stole a base, Foy (RS) drove him in with a single to take the lead. Frojd (2 H) followed Foy up with an rbi double to extend the lead to 2. With 2 outs in the 5th inning, Eastview put together a walk and then six straight hits to pull ahead. Smith (0 ER) came in relief of Furnstahl (5 R, 2 ER) early in the game to shut the door on Bloomington's offense, which was hot early. Bloomington never had a guy reach base after the 3rd until Smith ran into trouble in the 6th by giving up a walk and single to lead off the inning. Perlenfein (0 ER, K) came in and got the first hitter out on a bunt. With the sacrifice, Bloomington had the tying run on 2nd base with only 1 out. The Warriors' next hitter hit a sharp grounder to Frojd at 3rd who threw the tag on the runner, catching him just too far off the base. Perlenfein retired the next 4 hitters and the Lightning prevailed in yet another exciting game! In their last three games Eastview has had 31 hits on offense. In the Lightning's 13 total league games, only 5 have resulted in games whose difference was over 3. That is some competitive baseball being played! Eastview comes back with another big league game against Burnsville White. Eastview defeated them 7-4 earlier in the season on their home turf so you know they will be looking for some revenge. Burnsville (5-6-1) is in 5th place, right behind Eagan. Taking the hill for the Lightning will be Chris Ferber (2-0, 3.23), who is 2-0 in his 2 starts with only 5 hits allowed in over 10 innings. Game time is set for 615pm at the EVHS Varsity, where Eastview is only 1-2.

Smith (W, 3-2)
Perlenfein (SV, 4)
