Game Notes: Buck, Perlenfein (6) & Furnstahl (10)

Eastview (7-5) won its semifinal game 4-3 in a 10-inning thriller against New Richmond. New Richmond won their pool by going 3-0 and having a run differential of nearly +30. The Lightning staff shut down a very potent lineup, allowing only 8 hits in 10 innings. In the 2nd inning, the Lightning struck first with 3 bunts (a bunt for a hit, a two-strike sacrifice, and a suicide squeeze for a hit) leading to 2 runs. The score stayed the same until the 5th when New Richmond showed their depth by receiving a solo bomb by their #8 hitter. 2 walks and an error in the 6th allowed New Richmond to battle back and take the lead at 3-2. Thankfully 14-year-old baseball is 7 innings long because Eastview got down to their final out with no one on base before finally striking back. Michael Kyllo led off with a single, got to second on an error by the outfielder, and scored on a Mikulski single, tying the game at 3's. Mikulski then stole 2nd and 3rd, almost drawing an overthrow on the steal of 3rd. He was stranded at 3rd with 2 outs pushing the game to extra innings. Eastview received some gutsy performances on the mound as Buck came back from almost 3 innings Saturday to go 5.33 innings. Perlenfein came back from almost 10 innings Saturday to go 3.67 scoreless before giving the ball to Furnstahl who went 7 innings Saturday. Furnstahl shut the door in an easy 10th inning. With 1 out, Mikulski bombed a double and got to 3rd after a wild pitch. New Richmond walked the next two guys and got a bases loaded, 1-out strikeout. With 2 outs and the bases loaded, Mikulski took a big secondary, which was noted by the opposing catcher and coach. The next pitch, Mikulski took an even larger secondary and once the catcher threw the 3rd, he took off for home. On a bang-bang play, Mikulski was called safe and Eastview prevailed 4-3 to advance to the Championship game. In a weekend filled with tight games for the Lightning, they pulled through in another one. They face Lake Elmo for the tournament championship. Lake Elmo defeated Eastview 3-1 Saturday morning in pool play, so the Lightning should be hungry for revenge. Furnstahl (1-2, 4.80) is getting the ball to start and is expected to only go about 4 innings.

Furnstahl (W, 1-2)
