Notes:
Blue Jays lose a tough one 4-3 on a walk off home run by the first Hawk to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning. Game started out a bit shaky as the Hawks got two quick runs off of Boomer in the bottom of the first. After that, Boomer buckled down as the Jays clawed back to tie the game up in the 4th. Eric led off with a walk, followed by a sac bunt by Nix that was mishandled by the Hawks. Tony walked to laod the bases and Levi Vorliceck game up big with an RBI groundout to score Eric. Kyle Panning had an RBI groundout on the ensuing at bat to score Zach Junclaus who was pinch running for Nix and the game was tied 2-2, where it would stay until the bottom of the 6th inning. Adam Prehn relieved Boomer in the 6th and had a little tough luck of his own. With two outs and runners on first and third, the Hawk batter dribbled a roller back up the middle that scooted under Prehn's glove and gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead heading into the late innings of the game. In the 8th, the game turned into one of the crazier amateur games in recent history. As Ode grouned out, the realease of his bat got a little close to the umpire, prompting the ump to comment to Ode on his way back to the dugout. As Ode muttered an apology, the umpire told him to stay on the bench because he was done. The Blue Jays interpreted that as Ode being ejected from the game and made lineup changes accordingly. However, after the bottom half of the inning had passed, the umpire paid a visit to the Blue Jay dugout to tell inform us that he had apparently not ejected Ode from the game. After rallying to score a run in the top of the 9th to tie it 3-3, the Blue Jays re-entered Ode to come in and pitch in relief of Prehn with the understanding that he was still eligible to play. This prompted the Hawks to argue and resulted in the umpire changing his mind for yet a second time. The Jays were told that Ode could not come into the game after all because he had been told he was "done." As a result, Prehn stayed in for the ninth and the first Hawk hitter ended the game with a homerun. Tough loss for the Blue Jays as everyone that was in attendance at the game is still confused by what went down in the 8th and 9th innings. |
