Game Notes: Ferber, Perlenfein (3) & Smith (4)

Eastview (26-14-1) battled back to come from behind and defeat 2nd seeded Lakeville North 8-6. The Lightning now are 11-3 in games following a loss and still haven't lost back-to-back games since early June. Eastview jumped to an early lead after Frojd and Ferber had 2-out singles followed by a Panther error, leading to an unearned run. Lakeville didn't wait too long to fight back as they scored three runs in the 2nd inning. Ferber struggled with his control as he walked three that inning and gave up only one hit. Lakeville North scored three unearned runs in the 4th to extend the lead to 6-1. With the same score in the 6th inning, the Lightning started to claw back. Buck (2 1B) led off with a single and Herro (2 RS) had a one-out walk. With two outs and runners on first and second, Foy (RS, 2 RBI) blasted an RBI double. Perlenfein reached on an error, which resulted in two more runs. After shutting down the Panther offense again, it was 6-4 going into the 7th inning for Eastview's last chance to keep their season alive. With 1 out, Ferber (BB, 1B, RS) reached on an error and Buck followed that up with a single, allowing Ferber to get to 3rd. With a full-count and the runner on first going, Smith hit a weak roller between first and second and he beat it out for an infield single, getting the tying run to second base. Herro hit a weak roller to second but the Panther infielder had it go right between his legs, tying the game. Ronhovde battled to a full count and got a walk for his efforts to load the bases for Foy. With a 1-1 count, Foy executed a perfect suicide squeeze to give the Lightning the lead. With a one-run lead and the bases still loaded, Perlenfein hit a sacrifice infield fly, scoring Herro to give Eastview a two-run lead. Matt "Hollywood" Smith (3 1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER) shut the door in the 7th as he came on to give Eastview some much needed relief. His ability to stop the bleeding and throw up 0's allowed the offense to fight back and take the lead. Although Chris Ferber struggled on the mound, the Lightning are still undefeated in starts made by him. That being said, Ferber (5-1, 3.17) will take the ball in the championship game Wednesday. Game time and location are both TBD. Eastview will face the winner of top seed EP Red and 12th seed Shakopee. If Shakoppee wins, the Lightning will host the game.

Smith (W, 5-3)
