Game Notes: Pitching continued to be the Lions strong point this season (Team ERA of 1.40 through 3 games). Four Lion pitchers combined to throw a 6 hitter against the Mountaineers in a 5-1 for the Lions. Junior right hander Chas Kok gave up 4 hits, striking out 4 and allowing no walks and runs in his final 3 innings of work prior to the start of league. Ryan Hastings (Soph) threw the 4th inning, facing 6 Mountaineers, giving up 2 hits, 1 walk, one earned run, and striking out three. Taylor Martin followed up a strong performance at Oak Harbor throwing 2 solid innings on Saturday. Taylor faced 6 hitters, striking out one, and allowing no runners on base. Senior Marcus VanderPloeg closed out the game throwing his final inning before he takes the hill in the NWL opener for the Lions. He faced five hitters, (5 K, 1 BB, 1 H) in the 7th inning. The Lions only wrapped out 4 hits. Michael Hagerty started out the game as he has done the previous two by safely reaching base for the third consecutive time. Michael went 1-2, with 1 SB, 2 BB, 1 SO, and 1 RBI. Michael is hitting .400 for the season in the first three games. Brock Anderson collected his 3rd hit of the season, knocking a high, outside fastball into the left-center alley. Dillon Lanksbury got his first Varsity hit, with a single to left field, scoring B. Anderson. Tyler DeZeeuw had the final hit for the Lions. Tyler finished the day with 2 stolen bases, and a RBI. The Lions are hitting .213 for the season, and are hoping to break out of a slight slump against the Seahawks on Tuesday.
