Selchow, Johansen (3), Dickson (4) & McDevitt (6) APPLE VALLEY -- Eastview (1-2) got into the win column for the first time of the season by defeating district rival Apple Valley 10-7. Eastview jumped on the board with a run in the top of the first and never relinquished the lead. The offense finally broke through with 9 hits led by Selchow (2 RS, SB, 2 RBI), Johansen (2B, RBI), Augustin (RS, BB, RBI) & Bangh (RS, SB) -- all having two hits. It was a complete team effort on offense where 9 players reached base and 7 players scored runs. The pitching staff was again let down by its defense which committed 5 errors leading to 3 unearned runs scoring. 4 different Lightning pitchers toed the rubber with Keegan Dickson making his 2011 debut. Apple Valley had the tying run reach base in the bottom of the 7th but had a runner thrown out at home to end the game. On the night, the Lightning threw out 3 Eagles trying to advance on the basepaths, ultimately saving the game. With the loss, Apple Valley has fallen to 0-2 after winning the league last season. Eastview's win pulled them within a game of the league leaders. The season is still very young being only a week in so the Lightning has lots of time to climb to the top, especially in a tight league with many talented teams. Eastview has the weekend off before hosting Shakopee on Monday at EVHS. Game time is set for 615pm and rumor has it that Karsten Augustin will make his 2011 debut as the team's starting pitcher.
