Stockwell & Dickson (6) APPLE VALLEY -- Eastview (4-3) defeated Shakopee 7-2 on a beautiful May evening under the lights. The Lightning jumped on the board early by plating 3 runs and sending 9 to the plate. Bangh (RS), Leighton (RS, SB), Selchow (RS, 4 BB, SB) & Dickson (RBI, 2 H) started the frame by reaching base. Dickson drove in Bangh, Leighton scored on a wild pitch and with 2 outs McLean drove in Selchow. After the Sabers got one back in the 2nd, the Lightning put two more across in the 3rd to go up 5-1. Johansen led off with a walk and scored on an RBI groundout by Wilson. After Shakopee got one back in the 5th, Eastview got one back in the 5th and 6th innings. With 2 outs and nobody on in the 5th, Augustin reached on an error and sped around the bases on a Stockwell (BB) double. In the 6th, Ibeneme blasted a double with 1 out and scored on a wild pitch to give the Lightning another insurance run. The story of the night, however, was the pitching. Stockwell made his first start and went 5 strong innings, allowing only 4 hits, 2 runs, and he struck out three. Dickson made his second appearance on the season and pitched two perfect innings, striking out three. The Lightning committed only 2 errors on defense and made several nice plays, led by Bangh on a foul popup by the Saber dugout and Johansen ranging to his left up the middle at shortstop. The pitching and defense are starting to heat up as they have given up 4 errors in the last 3 games. Eastview comes back against rival Burnsville Wednesday night at the EVHS Varsity Field. Jonny Selchow (0-2, 4.20) will take the hill in his second start of the season. Game time is set for 615pm. If the Lightning win, they will move into the top 3 in the region, which is a tight one early in this season. Stockwell (W, 1-0) |
