APPLE VALLEY -- Eastview (5-3) won an absolute thriller in extra innings against Burnsville by a score of 3-2. With the win, the Lightning have now won 5 of 6 and are putting pressure on the rest of the teams ahead of them in the division. In the first three innings, Burnsville left six stranded (four in scoring position), which ended up costing them. After 4 scoreless innings, Burnsville finally got through and struck first with a pair in the 5th following back-to-back doubles and a wild pitch. Eastview got one back right away following 3 walks and a 2-out single by McDevitt scoring a run. Scott Ullger, I mean Coach Brad, got a runner thrown out at home by a good 5-10 feet. Thankfully, the squad picked up the coach by tying the game the next inning led by a leadoff double by Leighton. Following a popout, Leighton got a great jump on a wild pitch that didn't kick far away and made it safely into third on a close play. That played key as the Blaze brought their infield in and Dickson worked a 7 pitch at bat to bloop one in just outside of the infield grass. The Lightning left runners in scoring position in the 5th, 6th & 7th innings. In the extra frame, Selchow led off the inning with an infield single and moved to second on a bunt by Bangh. With 2-out and Selchow still on 2nd, Johansen hit a shot to the gap, scoring Selchow easily for the walk-off victory. The Lightning were held to two hits through five innings but had six in the last three frames. Augustin (2B, BB) was the only player to have more than one hit and Johansen (BB) was the only other player to reach base more than once. Jonny Selchow stole the show on the mound as he went all 8 innings to get the win, his first of the season. He only gave up 5 hits to a Burnsville squad that can hit the ball with the best of them. He also struck out 10 and got better as the game went on. Eastview comes back right away against league-leading Lakeville North, who suffered their first loss on the season against Apple Valley. If the Lightning win, they move into a second place tie and will only be a game back of the Panthers. Last week, the Lightning lost in walkoff fashion to North and hope to get some payback. Cole McDevitt (0-0, 4.34) will be taking the hill for his second start of the season. Game time is set for 8pm at Quarry Point #1.
