APPLE VALLEY -- Eastview (7-3) pushed its winning streak to six straight by defeating crosstown rival Apple Valley 15-7. The Lightning jumped out to an early lead by pushing four across in the 2nd inning. Dickson (4 RS, 3 H, RBI, SB) and McLean (2 BB, 2 SB, 2 RS) led off the inning with singles and with 2-out Ibeneme (2 RS, 2 RBI) reached on an error plating McLean. Wilson (2 RS) followed with an RBI double and Leighton (3 H, 2 RS, 2 RBI) drove in Wilson with an RBI single. After the Eagles split the lead in half, Eastview came right back with a big inning to push the lead to nine. 3 of the first 4 hitters walked and with 2 out, Ibeneme drove in McLean with a single and Wilson reached on an error. Leighton drove in Ibeneme with another 2-out single. Augustin walked to load the bases for McDevitt who cleared them on a first pitch double. Apple Valley immediately came back and got within 5 before the Lightning pushed another one across with some "small ball." After the first two batters reached base, Stockwell had a perfectly executed SAC bunt right in front of an Ibeneme RBI single. Eastview pushed the game almost out of reach in the next inning by plating 3 to make it 15-7. On the night, the Lightning had 12 hits, five with 2 outs. Three Lightning players had multi-hit games and six reached base multiple times. They were aggressive on the bases with five bags swiped. There were five Eastview players who toe'd the rubber, none going 2 innings after Bangh came out in the 4th. The pitchers escaped many jams as Apple Valley had runners on base all night (stranding 13 total). Leighton was credited with the win as he closed out the 5th and shut out the Eagles in the 6th. With the win, Eastview is now a half game behind Lakeville North for first place and a half game ahead of Mankato for second place. This sets up tomorrow's big game with the Royals -- winner holds second place. Cole McDevitt (0-0, 4.80) will make his team-leading 3rd start on the season for Eastview. Game time is set for 6pm at Bethany College.

Leighton (W, 1-0)
