Game
Notes:
Patrick Henry traveld to Lynchburg to take Western Valley District host EC Glass. Glass got the game started in the home half of the first with an RBI single to take an early lead at 1-0. The Patriots responded with 3 runs in the top half of the second inning. Sophmore Zach Whitaker pitched a gem of a game spreading 6 hits over 6 innings. While on the mound, Whitaker surrendered 3 runs (2 ER) during his 6 innings. "Zach gave us another quality start and did a good job of keeping Glass hitters off balance."said Coach Haigler. "When Zach can throw all pitches for strikes, he is tough to hit." added Haigler. Offensively for the Patriots, Aaron Burton got his first varsity homerun, a two run shot over the left field fence to cap off at 2 run forth inning. Also at the plate, catcher Will Kaufman worked his way out of a season long slump with a base hit to right field followed by back-to-back doubles. "Will has struggled all season. I was glad for him to have success at the plate. No doubt he has worked hard all year." Haigler said of Kaufman's performance. Along with Kaufman, Brad Sowers and Gary Fitzgerald collected multiple hits on the day with Sowers have a three hit day. "I know Gary was glad to be back between the lines. He was out early with an injury from being hit by pitch. Ironically, he was hit twice today on his return." added Haigler. Kemper Steffe came in relief in the seventh and allowed three runs off 1 hit.
Up next for the Patriots is Western Valley foe Franklin County. Both teams are 1-0 in the WVD and it should be a great baseball game. Game date is Friday, April 3 slated for a 5:00 first pitch.
