Pecatonica took the lead early against Mount Horeb #1 and never looked back. J. Tollakson, N. Loyd, and J. Scoville all made it around the bases in the first inning to help Pec. take a 3-1 lead over Mount Horeb #1, which would score that one unearned run on an error. An attempt to steal home on a passed ball, resulted in Mount Horeb's 3rd out of that inning; the collision at home plate between the non-sliding base runner and the starting pitcher, N. Loyd, would take Loyd off the mound after just one inning. He would return, however, to play 1st base despite suffering a minor back injury. S. Swenson would take the mound in relief and earn the save with two more no-hit innings. Meanwhile, Pecatonica's batters rallied with 4 runs in the 2nd and 12 more in the 3rd. Key sluggers were RBI singles from N. Loyd and G. Daley (twice), a 2-RBI sacrifice by J. Melvin, and a triple that earned N. Gilbertson an RBI of his own. Several base runners also managed to steal home, including J. Tollakson, T. Gilson, J. Melvin, S. Swenson, and N. Gilbertson (twice). After a controversial call at 1st base and a brief coaches' chat over the score, the game was called on the "10-run rule" after only 3 innings. |
