Devine, Runing (2) & Dickson (3) On the first day, there were many upsets in Pools all around. The first upset on the day came when Cottage Grove beat Eastview 7-6 to start off the tournament. Eastview had 8 errors on defense, which kept Lightning pitchers on the mound throwing extra pitches. After being down 7-1, Eastview battled back and had the tying run in scoring position with only 1 out in the 7th inning. The Lightning could not get him across and ended up losing the hard fought battle at the end. Melzarek (SB, 3 RBI) led the offense with 2 doubles. Velin (SB, RBI) also had two hits along with Woods (R). Anderson (BB) also reached base twice, including a double down the line. Dickson (2 H, 4 K) pitched great out of the 'pen to keep the game within reach. Eastview has some work to do in pool play now after losing their first one. They come back against Bloomington later tonight. Woods (3-0, 1.33) is expected to get the ball to try and shut down Bloomington. Game time is 6pm. Devine (L, 2-4) |
