Zero-to-zero. That's the way the scoreboard remained for the first three innings when Pecatonica returned to face Monticello for the second time this season. After Monticello prevented Pecatonica from scoring in the 1st inning, an unassisted double play by Pecatonica's first-baseman, J. Hendrickson, returned the favor. In the 2nd, Pecatonica was unable to score, despite having two runners reach base on a single and a walk. In the bottom of the 2nd, Monticello faced the same situation...runners at first and second, with one out, when J. Hendrickson fielded back-to-back outs at first base to end the inning. But in the top of the 4th, Pecatonica's batters found the strike zone. With two runners on base, D. Conwell hit a fly past Monticello's shortstop to bring J. Scoville in from second base and put Pecatonica on the board. C. Anderson's next single loaded the bases and set the stage for G. Daly's double to left field, which earned him three RBIs. A few fielding errors in the 5th inning allowed Pecatonica's T. Hodgson to score, but Monticello capitalized on a single and an error to bring two runners across home plate. Pecatonica's M. Wedige earned an RBI with a double in the 6th, followed by C. Anderson's sacrifice grounder, which brought in the final run for the visiting team. Then, in the bottom of the 6th, Pecatonica's pitcher, T. Hodgson, struck out three of four Monticello batters to end the game. |
