Thanks for the Memories!

As many of you have heard, I will not be at Wheatland this coming school year. I have recently taken a position in the Elkhorn School District (where I live) where I will be teaching and possibly doing some coaching.

I would just like to thank any of my players, former players, and the WCS community as a whole for 16 very happy years. On the basketball front, we have accomplished some great things and have always represented the school with pride.

To this year's team, everything is in place for you to have a pretty darn good year. Just remember to keep working hard and play the game the right way. I will be watching from a distance.

Do not hesitate to contact me if there is ever anything I can help you out with, and I am sure our paths will cross in the future, maybe even on the basketball court :). Good luck!

Warhawks Lose in Playoffs

The Hawks got off to a strong start against Brookwood in their playoff gqame and lead through three quarters. However, foul trouble and some defensive letdowns allowed the Mustangs to take control in the final minutes where they sealed the game, 42-34. John G. lead WCS with 28 points.

Warhawks Win Consolation Bracket

The Warhawks won the consolation bracket at the Central Booster Club Tournament this weekend. In the opening game Saturday morning, the Hawks came out slowly, trainling 12-0 after one quarter as Providence was hot from the perimeter. The Hawks chipped away and took the lead early in the 4th quarter. However, the Wildcats made their free throws down the stretch and the Hawks could never get the big shot to go down and the Wilcats escaped 38-31. John G. lead WCS with 26 points.

In the nightcap, the Hawks struggled shooting the ball against the smaller St. Al's Roadrunners, but did enough defensively to cruise to a 28-21 victory. John. G. scored 14 points while Kasey L. chipped in 5.

In the consolation championship game, the Hawks came out playing exceptional defense against Brighton and were strong on the boards. They let up some and allowed Brighton to chip away at the early lead, but every time they got close, the Hawks answered with strong play. John G. laed the Hawks with 31 points while K. Lois had 5 (including a clutch 3-pointer) and Scott S. scored 3 points and was impressive on the boards as the Hawks won 41-32.

John G. was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 71 points on the weekend.

Hawks Lose Conference Finale

The shorthanded Hawks played the regular season champion, Raymond Panthers with just 6 players for most of the game. While the score was ugly, those 6 players battled hard and gave everything they could on the court. Eric S. scored 4 points to go with 7 rebounds for the Warhawks.

Congrats to the B-team for winning their first game of the year, defeating Raymond 20-18. Kasey L. scored 10 points for the Hawks.

Hawks Fall to Raiders

The Lakewood Raiders slowly pulled away from the punchless Hawks to open up a comfortable lead. The Warhawks cut the lead to 10 on a few occasions in the second half, but could never seriously threaten, losing 40-19. John G. lead WCS with 12 points.

Hawks Lose a Thriller

The Hawks and Brookwood Mustangs played a thriller which went down to the wire. The game went back and forth featuring the hot shooting by the two respective team's stars. Finally, the Mustangs hit the clutch basket when they needed it and a potential tieing basket rolled off the hoop with under 3 seconds to go, resulting in a 46-42 loss. John G. put on an amazing offensive performance with 37 points.

Next Game Please

The Hawks performance against Randall tonight was hardly a very pretty affair. However, it should be noted again that all but one player who played tonight is a 7th grader and based on ability and experience, they are really closer to a B-squad. However, they have worked exceptionally hard to become competitive and have not complained about the lack of 8th grade talent that most of our opponents feature. While games like tonight are hard to stomach, the effort of the young men cannot be faulted.

Remember, it isn't how far you fall, but how high you bounce.

The B-team gave Randall a tough tussle and played them better than many teams have this year, losing 31-15. Mitchell L. scored 9 points with 11 rebounds for the Hawks.

Warhawks Lose Three at Wilmot Feeder Tourney

The Hawks fell to Lakewood, Randall, and Riverivew this past weekend at the Wilmot Feeder School Tournament.

On Saturday afternoon, they played Lakewood but struggled to score and stumbled their way to a 34-13 loss. Sam G. lead WCS with 6 points.

On Saturday night, they surprised Randall by actually leading well into the third quarter before an end of quarter run put the Hawks behind for good, finally losing 38-29. John G. lead the HAwks with 20 points while Buddy B. chipped in 4.

Finally, on Sunday, the scoring problems continued as the Warhawks simply could not get the ball to fall, losing to Riverview 33-15. John G. scored 13 points for WCS.
