Posted Aug 27/11 - Bantam AAA Royals Fall Baseball Program
The Ridge Meadows Royals will be hosting a fall baseball program this year that will based out of Hammond Stadium.  The schedule will consist of 1 tournament in Cloverdale and possibly one home tournament.  There will also be exhibition games against other Bantam AAA programs and intersquad games.  Practices will be held with skill development in mind.  All age eligible players who are interested in taking part in the fall program are welcome to do so.  If you only want to attend for skill development practices or intersquad games that can be arranged.

The fall ball and winter ball program to follow will be used to help select the 2012 Bantam AAA Royals.  Not participating in fall/winter ball does not eliminate you from consideration from the team but it is helpful in familiarizing with team concepts and coaches.

Cost for the program will be in the neighbourhood of $100 per player but can change depending on the level of involvement.

Please contact Head Coach Kyle Lukacs if you are interested. (604) 340-4096

Posted Aug 9/11 - Royals Picked up to Join Team BC in Winnipeg, Manitoba!!

Three members of the Ridge Meadows Royals were asked to join Team BC in Winnipeg, MB for the Western Canadian Championships.  Royals players Matt Jonsen and Andre Pelletier will be joining BC runner's up Vancouver Mounties for the Western Canada Baseball Championships from August 18-21.  Royals pitcher Graham Bailey was also asked to join Team BC but unfortunately was not able to attend because of personal committments.  The Royals coaching staff would like to offer the best of luck to Team BC in Winnipeg, especially to its players joining the team, to bring the Gold Medal back to British Columbia.

On a side note, when Team BC faces off against Team Alberta there will be some familiar faces across the diamond for Jonsen and Pelletier as the Alberta Champions happen to be the Sherwood Park Athletics Gold team whom the Royals defeated twice in their Alberta tournament held in June.  Good luck Team BC!!

Provincials Recap

The Bantam AAA Royals made a successful return to the league this season with an impressive regular season record followed by their first Provincial Semi-Final appearance since 2002.  After ten years of mediocrity the Royals finally got back to the cross-over games at Bantam AAA provincials and narrowly missed a ticket to the Championship game after leaving the winning run on 2nd base in the top of the 7th inning.  The Royals ended up losing to the eventual runner-up Vancouver Mounties 7-6 in yet another tightly contested affair.  If you discount the results in Richmond Tournament earlier this year these two teams played 5 extremely tightly contested games that ended up with a 2-2-1 record for each team 3 games decided by one run, one game by two runs, and of course a tie.

This tournament was expected to be fairly open as to who the winner might be with the top 7 teams having a legitimate shot at winning it all.  It was as advertised.  The Royals group consisted of 4 tough teams and an eventual sleeper.  With Cloverdale, White Rock, and North Delta the Royals had a combined 5-4 record from regular season play so you knew there were going to be no easy games.

With teams wanting to get a quick start the White Rock Riptide came out and threw (literally) everything they had at the Royals and grinded out a 4-3 win.  Not the start the Royals were looking for but later on that day the Royals pounded the ball against Victoria to earn a 7-1 win.  After day one, the Royals sat at 1-1.  Other big news from day one had the 7-seed North Delta Astros upsetting the 2-seed Cloverdale Spurs, this group was now wide open.

Day two saw the Royals lock horns with the Spurs and in a well-played tightly contested affair the Spurs came away with a 3-2 victory.  Although the Royals were keeping the runs against down they could not seem to break through offensively as they had all season long.  When the dust had settled on day two Victoria had upset North Delta, who then took care of White Rock later on in the day.  It was clear that this group of teams were taking it to each other.

On Day three it boiled down to a game between North Delta and the Royals with, essentially, the winner moving on because of defensive runs and records among tied teams.  Royals were ready for this game as they knocked around one of the better pitchers in the province picking up a 6-2 victory.  When all was said and done the top four teams in the province had moved on to the semi-finals but two of the teams had to take a tough road to get there.

The semi-finals saw the Royals meet the Mounties for the 7th and final time of the year.  Royals started crafty left-handed pitcher Ross on the mound who battled the Mounties for 3 innings giving up 4 runs with 2 more tacked on after he left the game.  Seeing as how this was a do or die game Royals brought Bailey out of the bullpen, which was very rare for him, as he was one of the top starters all season long.  Bailey couldn't keep the last two runs from cashing but provided 2 strong innings of relief.  Pelletier came in for the last 2 innings as the Royals pulled out all the stops to try and win this game and he shut the Mounties down.  Royals hitters battled all day and had a good approach at the dish but simply could not break through on Mounties starter Smith.  Royals batsmen worked the count and ran Smith's pitch count really high early forcing the Mounties to go to the bullpen.  Royals finally broke through in the 7th for five runs started by a Stadnik bunt for a basehit.  In the end, the Royals ran out of time and stranded the winning run on 2nd base in the 7th inning.  Mounties were forced to go to their 3rd pitcher on the day and just narrowly escaped with the victory.

The Bantam AAA Royals would like to congratulate their Senior team (Midget AAA) Royals on an excellent season.  It came to an end on Sunday with a 3-1 loss to Kamloops in Provincial Semi-Finals.  Congratualtions to the Manager Nor Ljunggren and the Midget AAA players who won the BC League title with an impressive 37-5 record and put together one of the longest winning streaks in recent history.  Nor and coach Dan Rennie provide an excellent Midget AAA program which is a nice option for graduating Bantam AAA players to stay in town if needed.  Again congrats on a great season guys...

Posted Jul 27/11 - Royals to Take Aim at Mounties in Season Finale

The Ridge Meadows Royals will make one final visit to Hillcrest Park this year to take on the Vancouver Mounties and hope to finally lock-up 3rd place in the province.  Both games this season with the Mounties have been very close each being won by 1-run and each team taking a single victory.  The season rubber match should provide some sort of preview to the provincials and hopefully another eventual matchup.

After this game the provincial draw will be clear and all matchups will be set.  Basically if the Royals can take this game they will avoid playing at 9AM each day during provincials.

Posted Jul 27/11 - Royals Lose 2 of 3 and Fail to Lock-up 3rd Place

The Ridge Meadows Royals lost 2 of 3 games against both the Cowichan Mustangs and North Delta Astros and find themselves now in a 1 game showdown to end the regular season in 3rd place.  The Royals won the first game vs. Cowichan by a score of 15-0 then lost game two in Duncan by a 5-3 score.  Royals knocked the ball around in the first game to register the win but then lost a close one in game two amidst one of the stranger strike zones seen in recent time.  The Mustangs deserve full marks for their win as they made some exceptional plays in the field that kept the Royals from breaking it open.

On Tuesday the Royals faced a hungry North Delta team that was looking to avoid the Wild Card Tournament and lost 2-1.  Royals faced the Astros top pitcher and he did not dissapoint again.  The Royals offence didn't register a run until the 7th inning which has been very rare this season.  Bailey threw well on the mound but was tagged with the loss as his counterpart was only slightly better.

Posted Jul 22/11 - Royals Lose 2 in a row for 1st time since March

The Ridge Meadows Royals have gone 2-2 in their last four games mixing in a two game losing streak and are now on a two game winning streak heading to Cowichan on Saturday.  As said previously, the Royals lost two consecutive games which they haven't done since the exhibition season in March.

After a dissappointing loss to White Rock the Royals literally handed a win to the Vancouver Mounties at Hillcrest by issueing an extremely high number of free passes to the bases.  The home runs are still coming as the Royals tallied another 6 over these 4 games.  Pelletier had two huge bombs (both to the opposite field) against the Mounties then added a single against Abbotsford on Wednesday night.  The Royals actually hit 4 home runs against Abbotsford with Halstrom, Jonsen, and Stadnik adding to Pelletier's shot in Abbotsford.  Yesterday evening Jonsen put the exclamation mark on the slugfest with a laser that went out to center at Bird Field.

On the mound, Bailey put his bad start in Vancouver behind him and was dealing in Port Coquitlam over 4 IP but received the no-decision.  Pelletier came in to mop up and got the win in relief.  Rooster made his return to the mound from a sore forearm (skateboarding?) in Abbotsford pitching 1 inning and Benard shut the door late as he had both pitches working nicely.

Some nice defense was speckled in by Germain's diving catches in the corner outfield postions while Bird has been a vaccum at 2nd base as he has made some spectacular plays there.

Royals move on to Cowichan (field in is Duncan) where they hope lock down 3rd place in the BC Minor Bantam AAA league.  One Victoria SR loss to North Delta coupled with two Royals wins in Cowichan will clinch the 3rd spot.

Posted Jul 13/11 - Royals Clip Astros in a Well-pitched Game

The Ridge Meadows Royals travelled to Westview Park on Tuesday and pulled out a tight 3-2 victory over the North Delta Astros.  The Royals outhit North Delta by a wide margin but the game still remained close.

MacMaster had a rough start for the Royals as he issued a high number of free passes but no hits.  He surrendered the only two runs of the game early and got into a none-out bases loaded jam in the second.  Evans came out of the pen and got the Royals out of it without giving up a run.  Pelletier came in after for 5 innings of shutout ball while only giving up 2 hits.  The Astros starter was real tough on Royals batsmen, going the distance over 7 IP.  He also limited the Royals on the bases by throwing over and holding the ball throughout the game.

Royals got to the Astros starter when MacMaster, trying to avenge his pitching performance, took the right-hander deep to RF on a frozen rope HR that hit the top of the fence and went over.  Germain got a rally started with a line drive basehit to the opposite field.  Baptista crushed a double off the left field fence to score a run.  In the end the Royals tallied 8 hits to the Astros 2 and won the game behind solid pitching and defense.

Posted Jul 10/11 - Royals Sweep Away Victoria JR Eagles with Win in Abbotsford

The Ridge Meadows Royals added another victory and a season series sweep over the Victoria JR Eagles with a neutral site win in Abbotsford Saturday.  The Royals scored throughout the game on route to an 11-1 victory.  On the mound, Halstrom had a tough start walking 4 batters over the first two innings but only surrendered the 1 run.  Anderson came in to relieve and shut the door, fanning a number of JR Eagle batsmen.

Royals got offensive production throughout the lineup.  Stadnik had an extra base hit to the opposite field as well as Jonsen and MacMaster.

Royals will play in North Delta on Tuesday and need a win to keep hopes of a season series win over the Astros alive.

Posted Jul 8/11 - Three Royals Selected to Baseball BC Prospects

The Ridge Meadows Royals would like to congratulate all of its players who tried out for the Baseball BC Prospects camp!  This is a top level camp and the Royals should be proud that 3 of its team members have been selected... Andre Pelletier (Grade 10 team), Devon Bird (Grade 9 team), and Brendan Halstrom (Grade 9 team).  This is a great achievement and goes to show the level of talent in Ridge Meadows baseball.  If you did not get selected, do not be discouraged as this is a difficult process to select teams and some players do inherently fall through the cracks.

Congratulations Royals Baseball BC Prospects selections!

Posted Jul 8/11 - Royals Win Big at Brighouse

The Ridge Meadows Royals traveled to Richmond on Thursday evening for the rubber match with the Chuckers.  Royals players were very motivated considering the embarassing loss in their last meeting and the presence of injured teammate Liam Godfrey.  Royals pitching came out hot with starter Kyle Ross collecting another win and 9 strikeouts over 4 innings of work.  The rest of the game saw Evans out of the pen for 2 innings and another stellar performance from Benard to close it out.

Offensively, Jonsen hit one out of the park to center and then Pelletier hit one on the road through the trees out of left field at Brighouse.  Evans collected two stolen bases and scored a couple of runs on the way to a 10-1 victory for the Royals.

Posted Jul 6/11 - Royals Axe Tribe and move to 2-0 vs. Neighbouring Rivals

The Ridge Meadows Royals eeked out a 2-1 victory over the Tri-City Indians on Tuesday under the sunny skies (yes, sunny!) of Pitt Meadows Athletic Park.  Royals batters didn't have their usual offensive punch on this day.  That being said, at least 2 rallies were cut short by unfavorable calls on the bases and one botched suicide squeeze.  A couple of bright spots were Halstrom's RBI laser up the middle and Stadnik's triple off the right field fence.

Royals pitching was stellar again with Graham Bailey picking up his 8th victory of the season (or so he says).  Kole Benard came in and was nothing short of spectacular over his 2 innings of work, fanning 5 Indian batters in the process.  Pelletier came in and worked a clean 7th to record the save.

The Royals move their focus to the Richmond Chuckers on Thursday night.  Royals are coming off an embarassing 7-1 loss in their last meeting and surely will be ready to take the season series rubber match.

The Ridge Meadows Royals finally got some good news from BC Minor after yet another protest filed against their Roster by the Vancouver Mounties.  Bayley Germain has been ruled eligible to rejoin the team after new information was brought to the BC Minor BOD.  Royals management is please the correct decision was made and that Bayley can continue playing baseball after sitting out two weeks.  Time to play baseball...

Posted Jun 29/11 - Black Tuesday...

The Ridge Meadows Royals had one of the worst Tuesdays recorded in recent history as the day was full of losses...

Early in the day the Royals found out that a successful roster protest by the Vancouver Mounties had taken place and 1B/P Bayley Germain was to be deleted from their roster.  Royals brass was really dissapointed with the decision brought down by BC Minor and the family is really upset that Bayley will not have a place to play baseball for the remainder of the summer... really a sad scenario...

With this in mind the Royals attempted to refocus for a game against the Richmond Chuckers that evening at Pitt Athletic Park.  The Royals came out extremely flat and fell behind 4-0 early to a motivated Chuckers lineup.  With rain pouring down and everyone feeling sorry for themselves matters only got worse when Royals starting shortstop Liam Godfrey went down in a collision with a Richmond base runner.  The news was terrible as Godfrey, after being ambulanced to the hospital, was diagnosed with a badly broken leg and his season was subsequently over.  After the delay in the game the Royals were extremely flat, seeing one of their good friends go down.  The Royals somehow managed to make it to the end of the game with a flattering 7-1 loss.  Even though the Royals didn't bring their best game the Chuckers certainly wanted this one and took it to the Royals.  In the process the Richmond team taught a hard lesson to their Royal counterparts.

Battling through adversity will only make the team stronger and that will start anew after the long weekend...

Posted Jun 26/11 - Bailey/Pelletier Combine to 1-hit Mounties in 3-2 Victory

The Ridge Meadows Royals added to their impressive win total with a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Mounties at Pitt Meadows Athletic on Sunday afternoon.  Royals batters outhit their Mountie counterparts 8-1 on the day so all things considered the score was somewhat flattering for the visitors.

Although, Royals pitching combination of Bailey and Pelletier limited the Mounties to only one hit they did issue 5 free passes which lead to one unearned run being scored.

Offensively, McMaster and Jonsen had doubles in the first inning with each of them finishing the game 2 for 3.  Bailey helped his own cause in 2nd inning registering an RBI on a fielder's choice to the right side of the infield.  Halstrom scored the second run of the game after hitting a double that nearly left the park going the other way off the right field fence.  The winning run was scored by Bird who reached on a single.  He then came around to score when the Mountie shortstop could not get his throw on line after seeing a speeding McMaster running down the line on a slow roller in front of him.

Mounties went down in order in the sixth after a questionable 2 out attempted steal of third base, 3rd out at 3rd base?  In the 7th, Mounties recorded two quick outs and then reached on an error.  The error was a chopper just in reach of Pelletier at the back of the mound but Pelletier couldn't complete the throw after stepping on the back of the mound while throwing.  The game ended with that runner at 3rd base when Pelletier K'ed the final Mountie batter looking.

Just before the handshake, a Mountie player was ejected for verbally abusing the umpire.  This came as a surprise as there was no controversy throughout the game.  Either way the Royals get their 20th win of the season on a well played game by both teams.

Posted Jun 24/11 - Rooster turns in Shorter Start as Pitch-count is High Early; Royals win Late

The Royals were coming off a tough loss to Cloverdale (at home) and were looking to rebound.  The loss to Cloverdale was long overdue as the Spurs played very well while knocking Royals pitching all over the park.  If the Royals didn't have enough motivation going into the game against White Rock then they certainly had it now as the loss to the Spurs definitely put things into perspective.

Kyle Ross started against the White Rock Riptide on June 24th (pictured above).  His pitch count ran a little high as he was forced to come out of the game earlier than he was used to.  Evans clutched up late in the game with a base hit off the bench.  Stadnik then pinch ran and quickly picked up a huge stolen base before scoring the go-ahead run.  Royals won the game 7-5 over White Rock.

Posted Jun 20/11 - Royals Make it 15-1 in their last 16 Games Overall
The Royals railed off their 13th straight victory on Sunday against the Okanagan A's and moved to 15-1 in their last 16 games.  Stellar pitching from the two horses on the Royals staff (Ross and Bailey) led to only 2 runs allowed over 2 games on the weekend.

On Sunday the Royals exploded for 13 runs in the top half of the first inning hitting balls to every square inch of the Cloverdale Ballpark.  Godfrey played his role at the dish to a "T" seeing close to 15 pitches in two ABs in the first inning.  Halstrom executed a nice delay steal in the first and coupled with smart baserunning as well as numerous extra base hits, this game was over early.

The Royals shift their focus to the Cloverdale Spurs who are a very tough team even though the Royals have had success against them so far this year.  First pitch goes at 6:00PM at Pitt Meadows Athletic Park.

The Ridge Meadows Royals moved to 16-4-1 on the season with a powerful 18-0 victory over the visiting Kamloops Riverdogs.  The morning was dark, gloomy and wet but considering the amount of travel put by the visiting team ever effort was made to get the game in.

On the hill Ross threw a complete game shutout picking up K's and giving up only 6 hits.  Behind the dish Whieldon shut down the Riverdogs running game going three for three in gunning runners down.

Offensively Bailey, McMaster, Germain, Pelletier, Jonsen, and Whiledon all hit for extra bases.  The game was capped by a mammoth grand slam hit by Jonsen.

Royals turn their attention to the Okanagan As at the Cloverdale Ballpark tomorrow.

Royals Sweep Interior of BC by going 4-0

The Ridge Meadows Royals moved into 2nd place in the BC Minor Bantam AAA league with 4 straight victories over both Kamloops and Okanagan teams.  Although the Royals didn't have their best defence/pitching on display they brought an extremely high octane offense as they scored 62 runs over the 4 games.  Even though the field in the Okanagan wasn't very large in dimensions Royals hitters Jonsen and Pelletier hit shots that would have surely been out of a full sized midget field.

The Royals will complete the season series with both interior teams this upcoming weekend with single games at home.

Posted Jun 6/11 - Royals Win Doc Plottsky Sherwood Park, Alberta Tournament
2011 Doc Plottsky Memorial Champions

Royals Go 5-0 and Win Sherwood Park, Alberta Tournament!

Game 1

Royals 13 Sherwood Park Gold 1

It was a cold and windy evening at Sherwood Heights Park and the Athletics were missing 3 players at middle school graduation but considering the Royals had just got off the bus after a 14 hour ride this was a great result.  The Royals scored in the first 3 innings taking a 4-1 lead and then turned the heat on late in the game piling on another 9 runs.

Bailey started on the hill and went to the minimum pitch limit under Alberta baseball rules (30 pitches) only surrendering 1 unearned run over 3IP.  Germain threw in relief with Benard ending it in the last inning.

Offensively, Stadnik hit another homerun and added a double while Jonsen had 2 doubles and 4 runs scored in the game.

Game 2

Royals 13 SEEBA Cardinals 0

On Saturday afternoon the Royals faced the South Edmonton Cardinals under less than ideal conditions but slightly better than the previous night.  Again the Royals offense was on full display against the Cardinals as they posted 13 runs.  The Royals scored 9 runs over the first two innings with Halstrom picking up 3 hits including a double while Benard had two extra base hits one being a triple.

On the mound Ross, MacMaster, and Evans combined for a complete game 1-hit shutout (10 of 15 outs were K's).

Game 3

Royals 18 Saskatoon Braves 5

Sunday morning was the start of a possible grueling string of back-to-back-to-back games.  The Royals were required to win three consecutive games to take home the tournament championship.  Royals hitters got off to an excellent start scoring 11 runs in the first two innings before they cruised to victory.  Ross was all over the basepaths in the game collecting two hits, 1 HBP, 1 BB and scoring 3 runs in 4 PAs.  MacMaster added a 320+ ft solo-HR late in the game.

On the mound Anderson started the game and nearly finished it off until he ran into pitch count trouble late.  With the game 18-1 in the bottom of the 5th the Royals only blemish was surrendering 4 runs that inning on 2 errors, a hit batsmen and 2 hits.

Game 4 (Semi-Finals)

Royals 10 Red Deer Braves 4

In the semi-finals the Royals faced a well organized and tough Red Deer team.  The difference was that Red Deer pitching could not cool off the hottest bats in the tournament.  The Royals scored their lowest run total of the tournament (10) which could still be considered excellent offensive production.  Royals scored 8 runs off of a hard throwing righty from Red Deer over the first two innings.  Bird, Whieldon, Germain and MacMaster all had multiple hit games.

On the mound Halstrom collected the win as he was the 4th different starter in 4 games in the tournament.  He collected 6 K's over the first 3 innings of work.

Game 5 (Finals)

Royals 17 Sherwood Park Gold 15

The final game was the third in a row and a rematch of the first game of the tournament.  The Royals would play 3 games in 9 hours with minimal rest between so this was going to be a real gritty effort.  Bailey started on the mound and had a rough start but battled through while surrendering 8 runs over 3 innings of work.  This was probably the only bad start this season for Bailey but doubled with a lack of support on defense and an extremely questionable strike zone the damage was exasperated.  At the end of thee innings the Royals found themselves down 8-2 against a team that clearly wanted a better result than the tournament opener.

Germain entered the game in relief of Bailey and pitched a solid 3 innings surrendering only a single run in the 6th.  By this point the Royals bats came alive as they scored 12 runs from the 3rd to the 6th.  In the top of the 7th the Royals added 3 more to make the score 17-9.   Pelletier had 5 hits (2 for extra bases) and MacMaster had 4 hits (two triples).  Jonsen added a triple and was HBP twice.

In the bottom of the 7th Benard came into the game when the stike zone apparently vanished before his eyes.  Benard took 7 batters to 2 strike counts and looked as if he had collected a third strike on each one of them when they were mysteriously called balls, save 2 of them that ended in strikeouts.  The other 5 ended in hits or walks to the dismay of Royals coaches and parents.  When the dust settled the Athletics score 6 runs to make the game resemble more like a football score than that of a baseball game.  In the end the boys pulled through and got the win regardless of the process and showed alot of character to come back in a game where they were down 8-2.  Not to mention that this was their 3rd game in a row.

Great tournament win, great trip and great experience.  Total of 71 runs scored in 5 games has to be some kind of a record.  There were two HRs hit out of a Midget sized fence as well as 22 extra base hits recorded by Royals hitters.  This was great preparation for possible Provincial Championships in Victoria.

Posted May 5/11 - Royals Comeback from Bad 2nd Inning and Beat White Rock
The Ridge Meadows Royals showed some character and composure while getting a win against the now (7-3) White Rock Riptide, in South Surrey.  They jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of 2nd only to surrender 4 in the bottom half and fall behind 4-1.  Even though the umpiring was somewhat questionable the Royals kept their focus and continued taking the game one play at a time.  While continuing to chip away the Royals relentless attack brought them back to take a 6-4 lead.  Halstrom pitched well in relief of Pelletier who struggled a bit with his control.  Once the Royals got the lead they handed the ball to Bailey who made short work of the Riptide over the final two innings.  Offensively Stadnik stayed hot and showed all of his five tools with a nice bunt single just one game after hitting a Grand Slam against Cowichan.  Jonsen looked solid at 3rd base, attacking the ground balls across the infield and firing peas to Ross at 1st to record several tough outs.

Still some room for improvement but all facets are being progressively polished after each game.

Posted Apr 25/11 - Royals Sweep Away JR Eagles Sunday in Victoria

The Ridge Meadows Royals completed a successful weekend in Victoria by earning 3 out of 4 Victories against a tough baseball program.  The Royals offense was on full display Sunday as they managed 22 runs over two games.  The Roylas shift their attention to the third attempt at rescheduling a game vs. the Burnaby Braves.  The game will go at 6:00PM on Wednesday April 27th at Kensington Park in Burnaby.  The Royals are looking to finally solve the Braves in their 3rd meeting this year.  The previous two meetings saw an exhibition loss at the Cloverdale Jamboree and a regular season tie on opening day.  Even though the Royals think they deserved better against Burnaby in their previous two meetings, it will take a real good effort to come away with a victory against the 4-1-1 Braves.

The Ridge Meadows Royals picked up their first win of the Regular Season by winning the back end of a doubleheader with the Victoria SR Eagles.  Add another two home runs to the Royals team totals as Halstrom went deep in game one for his first of the year and McMaster hit his second already in game two.  Royals defence is continually improving but had some minor let-downs in game one contributing to a 9-4 loss but was much improved in taking game two by a score of 4-3.  Royals face the Victoria JR Eagles on Easter Sunday for a set of two games.

As seen above, the Royals Bantam AAA team left their team defence at home and committed 12 errors over 2 games.  Not only did the Royals make an absurd amount of errors, Royals pitchers tallied 14 walks on the day as well.  In a way the Royals attempted to literally hand the games to the Twins but somehow managed to win one game.

The one bright spot for the Royals was their hitting which registered a whopping 27 hits on the day of which 8 were for extra bases.  The final week of preparation for practice begins and will include a fitness session on Tuesday, strategy talk on Wednesday, and finally practices on possibly Thursday and Friday.  The Royals open up against the Burnaby Braves on Sunday April the 10th at Kensington Park.

Royals Drop Opening Double-dip to Tribe and go 0-1-1

The Ridge Meadows Royals finnaly opened their exhibition season after two rainouts with a double header against the Tri-City Indians.  The Royals were minus 4 players and had some AA call-ups but still showed some promise while going 0-1-1 against a sharp Tri-City squad.  Tri-City boasted 13 hits over the two games even though Royals pitching registered 18 K's over the two matches.  The first game ended in a 2-2 draw where Ridge Meadows batters stranded 7 batters and registered 6 hits.  In the second game, rookie pitcher Kyle Ross was tagged with the loss even though he looked sharp in his first start of the season.  Ross tallied 5 K's over 3 innings of work.

The Royals shift their focus to the Cloverdale Spurs tournament on March 26/27 where they hope to continue season preparation for the start of the Bantam AAA regular season play on April the 10th against the Burnaby Braves.
