Posted Sep 20/09 - History Repeats Itself in 007's Split With Beer Nuts.

It was a windy day when it started, and a windy day when it ended and the only thing that changed was a win and a loss for the 007's. With no manager on site Sherry Hennessy piecemealed a shoestring lineup that sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning scoring 7 runs - and leaving the bases loaded. With the wind helping keep the ball at bay and Kristine Duke's strong pitching - the 007's won Game 1 8-6...

This game also featured some great catches in the outfiled and a really great game at third base by Cora-Leigh Mazurat, who made some great put-outs with laser throws to first.

Getting out of the gates was the easy part though as the 007's reeled off 7 first run innings, and scored only three more in the next 9 innings (over 2 games).

In the second game - it was a bases loaded walk that brought in the winning run as the 007's dropped Game 2 by a 3-2 decision. Co-Skipper (and latecomer) Charles Smadella was quoted as saying "It was a tough loss - a game we probably should have had, we played a pretty focused set of games today and were pretty upbeat about what we did with the lineup we had - you know you can't win em all but that said you don't lose many by letting the other team score only three runs."

It was eerily reminiscant to last years Fall Ball makeup doubleheader aginast - you guessed it - THE BEER NUTS! The 007's scored 15 runs in the first inning to win Game 1 18-3 and than lost Game 2 9-6.

But the offensive woes weren't just bats going silent - they were snuffed out by a triangle of SS, 2B and 1B that snuffed out most of the chances. This included hitting into three double plays and an inability to score base runners leaving 14 runners stranded in the 2 contests.

The team spirits were even keeled as they knew they put forth a good effort on a horrendous day of weather, fielding a team with 5 guys and 5 girls for the first time in 007's history.

Depending on the outcomes of other games, the 007's will remain tied for first or no worse than second in the standings with 4 regular season games to play.

The next action for the 007's is Tuesday against Charlie's Angels featuring two former thirsty nine members - Charlie Chastelaine and Trevor Wowk. This promises to be a barnburner, tickets available at Ticketmaster.
