Posted Jul 29/09 - New York Trip - Cooperstown!

 On July 24, and 25 the Reds participated in a College Showcase attended by a number of college scouts. Other teams had select players participate while the Reds had all players participate in the experience. A number of individuals had strong showings in postitions and pitching with Ben Bechtold testing as the fastest in the camp in the 60.

The Lewiston Lancers Tournament began on July 25 with team playing in 3 games through a series of rain delays resulting in 3 losses. The single elimination playoffs began on Sunday. The Reds won the first 2 games convincingly and advanced to the Division finals. In a thrilling, entertaining, and well played game which went back and forth throughout, and extended to extra innings the Reds lost 10-9 in the bottom of the eighth.

On Monday the team travelled by bus to Cooperstown, NY and visited the Baseball Hall of Fame. The visit is a must for all baseball fans and really provided everyone with a true appreciatiofor the history and traditions of the great game of baseball.

On Tuesday the team played an exhibition game at historic Doubleday Field. The field has a rich history with all the greats including Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson all having played there. Stepping on to the field and between the lines was the experience of a lifetime for the boys and you could tell the adrenalin was flowing freely with the Reds unleashing an 11 hit performance defeating the Lockport, NY Stars 14-3.
