Posted Jun 6/12 - Dodgers Make Statement Against Vancouver
The Langley-Aldergrove Dodgers made a statement Tuesday night putting together another great effort.  Although the Dodgers eventually fell 3-2 to the Vancouver Mounties, they built on the 3-0 victory over Abbotsford on Saturday and proved to themselves that they can match up well to the best teams in the Province.

The Dodgers, playing as the "Home" squad at Vancouver's Hillcrest Park, spotted the Mounties a 2 run lead in the top of the first inning.  The runs came on a walk and a series of 2 out hits by the heart of the Mounties order.  None of the hits were of the cheap variety, with Mountie Barry Caine delivering a clutch 2 run single.  However, Dodger starter Yi-Fan Pan battled back and induced a pop fly to second for the third out. From that point on the combination of Pan's pitching and some solid defensive play limited Vancouver's offense. Bailey Roope, Pan, and Arnold were notable on defence with some fine plays.  Kano McGregor was solid behind the plate and set the tone by throwing out the lead off walk in the first.

Vancouver did score one unearned run in the top of the fifth, but the Dodgers stormed back in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own.  Matthew "Sellie" Selinger started the rally with a one out line-drive up the middle. After another Dodger strikeout, John Lipp had a quality at bat and eventually earned a base on balls.  Spencer "Barky" Barkes then stroked a hard hit ground ball up the middle for a single to load the bases. Cole Cantelon and Justin "Arnie" Arnold then showed real composure in their at bats by earning back to back walks to bring the Dodgers to within one before the Mountie reliever induced a pop fly off the bat of Kano McGregor.

The final two innings were scoreless, with Justin Arnold coming in for Yi-Fan Pan when the latter reached his 95 pitch limit.  Arnold had one of his best outings of the season.

Next Up: The Dodgers play host Saturday to the North Island Blizzard on AAP's Devon's Diamond (first game starts at Noon), before traveling Sunday to Bird Park in PoCo for a tilt vs. the Tri City Indians.
