Aldergroves Bantam fall ball teams had a great start to the season by winning both thier games against the Vancouver Minors!

On perhaps the most beautiful day of the failing summer of 2012, Lanlgey Aldergroves bantam Dodgers Blue and Red team opened the Fall ball season against Vancouver Minors.

The first three innings saw the dodgers Blue ahead 4 to 1, on some strong pitching and defensive work from Jared Mannick. Highlighting the second inning was a 1-3-2 Double play. Jared fielded the grounder, threw to first where Monti Smith alertly threw home to catch the runner coming from third. Great defence by the boys. Vancouver Minor evened the score in the top of the fourth on an error and the 4 strike at bat. The bottom of the inning saw Brock Wickins drive in Yi-fan Pan to put the Dodgers back in front, not to look back.

Cole Cantelon went 3 for 3 while Mitch Brown and Brock Wickins both went 3 for 4 with three singles each. Monti Smith contributed with a very timely shallow field single with 2 out in bottom of the 6 th. Four consecutive singles put 5 more runs on the board for a big inning from the Dodgers. It proved to be too big an inning for Vancouver Minor to respond to.

The final score of 11 to 8 in favour of the Dodgers was a strong way to kick the season off. The coaching staff was well pleased with the pitching today. We made a couple of very heads-up plays defensively, definitely something to build upon. Our bats came alive when they had to.

Team Red won their opener 7-5 with starter Jake Polancic throwing 38 pitches with pitching support by Ken Dubois, Yi Fan Pan and closed out by Ian Burns. 

Considering these were our first games of the fall ball season the coaching staff was impressed overall with the players offensive/defensive plays and team cohesion.
