Posted May 12/13 - Thunder vs. Hartford

Thunder Rolls to Victory Over Hartford!!

 

The Thunder improved to 2-0 on Saturday with a 19-3 win over Hartford in five innings. After a perfect top of the first, the Thunder scored 4 in the bottom of the 1st to take a 4-0 lead into the 2nd. Sam Geldnich singled to get things started and was driven home by Dawson Rondorf's solid single to center. After a couple walks, Lucas Karls singled to drive in another run and the Thunder was on their way. After another scoreless frame by Joey Spence in the top of the second, the Thunder bats added to their lead with 2 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Trey Larson singled to start the inning and was driven home by a Calvin Karnitz triple to right center. After a wild pitch, the Thunder led 6-0 after two complete. Hartford would plate 3 runs in the top of the 3rd to cut the lead to 6-3 but the Thunder quickly responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and put the game away with 9 runs in the bottom of the 4th and would hold Hartford down in the top of the 5th to win 19-3.

Joey Spence started on the mound and went two strong innings allowing 0 runs and 0 hits while striking out 5. He was relieved by George Seaman, Lucas Karls and Caden Gish. Lucas Karls struck out 2 in his inning and 2/3 and Caden Gish pitched a solid inning as well giving up no runs while striking out 1.

The Thunder were led at the plate by Calvin Karnitz who had a triple and double with two runs batted in. Dawson Rondorf, Jake Lavanway, Caden Gish and Trey Larson each had two hits apiece while Sam Geldnich, Lucas Karls and Brady Schmidt each had one. Ten Thunder players reached base in the game and all ten scored atleast one run.
