Posted Jun 3/13 - DODGERS DUMP CARDS TO OPEN TOURNAMENT

Anticipation was high as the Cardinals opened the Saskatoon Bantam AAA Early Bird Tournament Saturday morning to a standing room only crowd.  However, as the game went on it was apparent that Dodgers came to play and that the Cardinals should have stayed in bed.  “We should have just mailed in the two points” bemoaned a clearly despondent Darren Crilly.  “I am not sure what was going on with our guys, but we were embarrassed out there.  This is a team that we should be competing with, not getting thrashed 7-0”.

The Dodgers came out swinging, scoring 3 runs in the first off 5 hits on Cardinals starter Shawn Lewis. Lewis threw hard and fast, but didn't get any defense help.  The Cards came back with 3 hits in the first from Bryden Gore, Lewis and Ryan Crilly but were unable to score.  Defensively the Cardinals tightened up over the next couple of innings, but still found themselves trailing 5-0 after 3.

Lewis ended up pitching 6 innings leaving the game with 85 pitches and 6Ks allowing 7 runs (5 unearned).  Graham Forrester entered the game in the 7th pitching a solid game, not allowing any runs. The final score was Dodgers 7, Cards 0.

The Cards next game is an afternoon tilt against the high flying Blue Jays who dismantled the ailing A’s 11 to 3.
