Posted Jul 12/13 - BRAVES SQUEAK BY CARDS

SASKATOON, sk – An RBI single in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Braves over the Cardinals, 13-12, on Thursday evening at Nutana Park.  The Cardinals ran through 5 pitchers, not because they had to, but because they are getting ready for this weekend’s tournament.  Starter Reid Britnell, who pitched out of a couple of jams, was solid for two, before being replaced by Bryden Gore.  Gore was replaced by Ethan Myer who looked sharp for 1-2/3 innings.  Nolan Machibroda finished off the 5 and got out of a long 6th inning by picking off a surprised Braves runner at first.  With the game tied at 12, Graham Forrester managed to get two outs before the Braves squeaked out an RBI single to walk off with the win.  The Cardinals seemed to have solved their catching woes with Garrett Krawchuk having a solid game, recording the Cards first pickoff of a base runner from behind the plate this year.  The Cards also hit the ball well especially in the 4th inning when they sent 10 batters to the plate.

Up next for Cardinals: The Cardinals now play in the Saskatoon Bantam AAA Tournament at Nutana Field.  Their first game is tonight (6:30 Nutana No. 1) against Moose Jaw.  They then host the St. Albert Cardinals tomorrow morning at 11:00 am (Nutana No. 2).  The Cardinals beat St. Albert in their home park in May with a late game come‑back.
