Posted Dec 27/13 - Cards Runner-up in the North Laurel Legacy Nissan Tournament

The Cards just fall short in the Championship game of the North Laurel Legacy Nissan Tournament in London, KY against Cordia, 63-62, after defeating Williamsburg, 79-59, and Pickett County, TN, 77-65 in the first and second rounds. Forward Caleb Wigginton and guard Quentin Goodin were selected to the All-Tournament Team after posting great individual performances throughout the tournament. With the tournament results, the Cards move to 7-2 on the season. In the opening round, the Cards matched up against Williamsburg and rolled to a 20-point victory. Goodin scored 25 points, including a 3 for 3 performance from behind the arc, while earning 6 steals and 4 rebounds. Wigginton chalked up 23 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Austin Webster added 10 points and 6 rebounds and guard Ezra Oliver chipped in 7 points and 8 assists in the victory. With the absence of David Sloan in the lineup, freshman Tyler Franklin came off the bench and contributed 8 points. The next night, the Cards faced off against Tennessee Class A state champs Pickett County and secured a 12-point win. The used a 26-16 final frame to pull away from their opponents. Goodin led the way again, scoring 24 points, grabbing 9 rebounds and assisting on 6 buckets. Wigginton logged 19 points and 8 rebounds while Webster added 9 points and 5 rebounds. The semifinal marked the return of freshman David Sloan after missing two games with an ankle knock, but the guard still seemed to be bothered by the injury. In the championship game, the Cards battled against Cordia from Hazard, KY. The hard-fought game saw the Cards lose by a point. Not much separated the teams throughout the game and the Cards had chances at the end of the game to pull off the win against the thirteenth ranked team in the state, but could not convert their oppurtunities. Wigginton totalled 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Cardinals in their effort. Goodin added 20 points and 4 assists, but was straddled with 3 early fouls. Sloan scored 7 points, but still didn't seem to be at full strength. In the match-up, Wigginton surpassed the 1500-point mark and Goodin passed the 1000-point mark for their Taylor County careers. After earning second place in this tournament, the Cards will take off for Christmas and pick back up in the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic, starting the day after Christmas.
