Posted Jan 29/14 - Cards Pull Out Victory After Late Surge by the Indians

The Taylor County Cards were tested against district foes Adair County in a sloppy yet extremely contested match-up. Sitting a top of the district table, the Cards knew they were going to get all Adair County could throw at them and were able to pull out the victory, 62-57. The Cardinals had to overcome some adversity, committing 11 turnovers versus their 10 team assists and also only pulling down 25 team rebounds. Struggles from the field also plagued the Cards, as the team shot an average 45%, but were able to control most of the game against the Indians until a last frame dominated by Adair County made the game interesting. As Adair County pulled closer, the charity stripe turned out to be the friend of the Cardinals, as forward Austin Webster and guard Quentin Goodin nailed some clutch free throws down the stretch. Goodin led the way, with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists while forward Caleb Wigginton added 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Webster was the only other double-digit scorer, totalling 12 points and 4 rebounds. The Cardinals are currently on a 6-game winning streak and move to 5-0 in the district and 16-4 on the season. Friday night, the Cards will face Metcalfe County at home before travelling to Fairdale High School to play in the KOB Showcase on Saturday.
