Posted Jun 14/10 - An All Barracuda Final At Durant Tournament

The younger Barracudas battled the heat and six games in one day to force a showdown with the original Barracudas.  Here is a recap of what got them there:

Game 1 vs. Silo, things looked rough before the game even started.  Gametime came and we were short 1 player.  Tournament director granted us a 10 minute grace period to get a 9th player there or we would have been forced to forfeit.  With 2 minutes to spare we took the field.  Pitching and defense was good enough to get the win but just couldn't get bats going and dropped a tough one 4-5, which put us in the losers bracket.  Nolan, Bailey, & Conner got the action on the hill.

Game 2 vs. Calera, the kid throwing against us was throwing some heat.  Cudas woke up and started swinging the bats and scored 4 in the first.  Pitching & defense held up and Cudas pull out a hard fought loser go home 8-4 win. Bubba went the distance on the mound.

Game 3 vs. Mariners, Dayne went the distance and held the Mariners in check and the Cudas pull out another loser go home matchup 6-1.

Game 4 vs. Colbert, the bats really started to wake up.  Cudas score 10 runs as everyone got in on hit parade.  Cudas win 10-5 as Conner & Tayden keep us in the game on the mound.

Game 5 vs. Silo, "The Rematch," two batters into the game Dayne delivers the pitch, crack, a line drive right back at him.  Everyone rushes out to the field and Dayne has a big goose egg already formed under his eye.  After a few minutes he is able to walk off the field under his own power.  Game resumes with Cudas playing with 8 in the field and Nolan taking the mound.  Kid laces a hit down the third baseline that goes to the fence.  Tayden runs it down and fires to 3rd, bam, get the kid out at 3rd.  We come into bat and Dayne is due up 2nd.  Coaches & umps talk it over to see if Cudas will have to take an out or not in Dayne's spot.  Dayne puts an end to it and says he is batting.  Bubba gets up line drive, Dayne's turn another line drive, Nolan more of the same.  Bailey & Chace back to back both hammer the ball for doubles, both just missing homers.  Cudas put 7 on the board in the first.  Cudas finish the run rule win 12-2 after 4 innings.  Bailey pitched the 4th to close it out.

Game 6 vs. Cudas, after 5 games in 90+ degree heat and the humidity out of this world the Cudas are all complaining of fatigue.  But they have battled back to the finals against the original Barracudas.  Facing this team while at 100% is a daunting task.  Before the game Aaron & Cayman go head to head in a best of 3 game of rock, paper, scissors to see who gets home field advantage. First round both throw out rocks, 2nd round Caymen wins with scissors to Aarons paper, 3rd round Caymen wins home field advantage with a crushing blow with a rock to break down Aaron's scissors!!!haha  You guys like that commentary!!  On to the game, the Cudas start out with a base hit by Bubba up the middle.  He steals 2nd!!!  But that was about as far as the BIG BOYS would let the younger Cudas get.  Bubba gets thrown out trying to steal 3rd and Cudas retired in order.  Aaron starts on the hill and is throwing well.  If we make a play defensively we get out of the inning relatively unscathed, but if you give the Barracudas more than 3 outs your playing with fire.  After 1 innning we are down 0-4.  2nd inning we are retired in order again.  Hit a couple balls hard just right to 'em.  Man those boys can play some defense!  2nd inning Chace comes on in relief.  Cudas turn a double play against the older boys!!!  More of the same in the 3rd & 4th innings but the younger boys ended up with 2nd place after the 0-10 defeat.  Josh started on the hill for the Barracudas and threw a great game keeping our boys off balance with a nasty change!

Those older boys hustle in and out every inning, are always down and ready, always thinking a couple plays ahead, and just flat out get the job done!  We know those are some of the key things we need to do in order to compete against them and its something we as a TEAM will do.

Would like to say thanks to Tayden Walker & Kyle Rogers for playing with us this weekend!

The boys played some good ball and should be proud of what they accomplished this past weekend.  Went down in the first game out of the gates but battled back to win four in a row to play against some boys that they look up to and strive to one day be like.  The potential is there, now is the time to unleash it!!!

Barracudas look out, the Barracudas Black are wanting a rematch!!!
