Posted Jul 11/10 - Muskies Host Reds and Athletics
This
past weekend the Muskies had a two day double header against the Crookston Reds
and the Ada Athletics.Saturday was a
scorcher with each team feeling the heat over the course of the afternoon
games.Game one started with the Reds scoring
one and the Muskies three in the first inning.Crookston would add one more in the fifth, but the Muskies held on with Nowacki
striking out the final batter with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh to
end the game and get the win on the mound.Lars Anderson started game two and pitched his way out of jams all day
as the Reds stranded 14 runners on base over seven innings and held a 3-1 lead
going into the bottom of the seventh. With two runners on base and nobody out, Nowacki hit a double scoring
one and putting the tying and winning runs on second and third. The next batter, Shaun Storey, hit a chopper
to the shortstop who overthrew home scoring both runners and the Muskies a
walk-off win. Anderson got the win on
the mound while Nowacki went 3 for 3 with two doubles at the dish. The comeback win was the third of the year
for the Muskies. Sunday’s contests against
the Ada Athletics were a different story. The first game started with Ada scoring five runs over six innings
before the Muskies started a rally, in the bottom of the six Warroad would
score five runs tying the game. But in
the top of the seventh a leadoff walk would spell doom as Ada scored the eventual
winning run to take game one 6-5.Krahn
went the distance on the mound and took the loss while Nowacki and Anderson
each went 1-3 and a double.The second
game was no better as it was a 12 -2 laugher in the Athletics favor with timely
hits and lackadaisical play by the Muskies.Culleton took the loss on the mound with Ross Merriman going 2-4.
