Katy, TX----Cinco Ranch withstood a second half rally by Mayde Creek to pull out a 58-53 road victory on Tuesday night. Cinco jumped out to a 25-12 lead after one period, as Megan Palmer and Ashleigh Nwanguma combined for 22 points in the opening frame. Mayde Creek cut the lead to 35-24 at halftime, but Cinco pushed the lead back to 13 points, 52-39 heading into the final period. The Rams sliced the Cougar lead to three points, 53-50, with 1:50 left in the game behind a three-pointer by TCU commit Jazzmin Parker, but Cinco sealed the deal with free throws by Emily Richard and a layup by Ashleigh Nwanguma.
Nwanguma led all scorers with 22 points and also pulled down 10 rebounds. Palmer added 19 points and 10 rebounds. Shayne Ortiz hauled in six rebounds and dished out five assists, and Peyton Crump had a strong defensive night with five steals. Christy Williams had five assists for the Cougars, who improved to 18-12 on the season and 5-2 in District 19-5A play. |
